Yellowjackets Season 3 Is Officially Ending The Biggest Natalie Complaint After 3 Years
The cast and crew of Yellowjackets have teased some behind-the-scenes looks at the production of season 3, which reveals that a long-standing complaint about Teen Natalie will finally end. Following the release of Yellowjackets season 2’s shocking ending in 2023, the anticipation is high for the mystery/thriller show’s return in 2025. There are plenty of loose ends to still tie up in the upcoming episodes in both the past 1990s and present timelines, with behind-the-scenes teases hinting at a more feral, animalistic state for the teens in season 3.
When Yellowjackets season 3 kicks off, the teens will have been in the wilderness for almost a year (given the timeline of Shauna’s pregnancy), with the lack of shelter, food, and resources as well as the influence of the “wilderness” taking their toll on the survivors. This is already apparent in the behind-the-scenes teases from Yellowjackets season 3’s set, which give a look at returning characters with some new appearances, including Shauna (Sophie Nélisse), Taissa (Jasmin Savoy Brown), and Natalie (Sophie Thatcher). In fact, the teens’ new appearances have even fixed an aspect of Natalie’s wilderness look that has been complained about since season 1.
Teen Natalie’s Hair Is Finally Losing Its Blonde Color In Yellowjackets Season 3
Yellowjackets’ latest set video (via X) shows Sophie Thatcher with new hair for Teen Natalie, which finally sees the character’s roots growing out. One of the biggest nitpicks throughout Yellowjackets seasons 1 and 2 was that Natalie’s hair was still largely dyed blonde, despite the fact that she had been in the wilderness for several months and didn’t have any hair dye with her to keep the color. Consequently, there were complaints that Natalie’s roots should have been growing out with her natural brunette color at a much faster pace, yet her hair was still largely blonde by the end of Yellowjackets season 2.
One of the biggest nitpicks throughout Yellowjackets seasons 1 and 2 was that Natalie’s hair was still largely dyed blonde, despite the fact that she had been in the wilderness for several months and didn’t have any hair dye with her to keep the color.
The wilderness’ lack of hair products is now finally catching up to Natalie and Yellowjackets’ teen characters in season 3. By the end of Yellowjackets season 3, it may get to the point where Natalie’s blonde color is simply at the bottom tips of her hair, likely leading her to chop off that color to leave just her brunette hair. Considering Juliette Lewis’ Adult Natalie had dark hair throughout Yellowjackets’ present timeline, it doesn’t seem likely that she’ll return to dyeing her hair blonde once the teens are eventually rescued from the wilderness.
Natalie’s Hair Has A Deeper Symbolism In Yellowjackets Season 3
Seeing the transformation of Natalie’s hair returning to its natural color in Yellowjackets season 3 is a deeper reflection of the intrinsic, naturalistic states that the characters will return to in the wilderness. Now fending for themselves without societal rules, shelter, resources, and greater moral compasses, Yellowjackets’ teens are embracing a more feral, barbaric state in season 3. In a way, the decay of Natalie’s blonde hair symbolizes the decay of the teens’ morality and sense of normality in the wilderness – the more her hair returns to its natural color, the more the characters return to a natural, survivalist state of being.
Natalie has no help from hair dye to maintain the individualism of her teenage life from the real world, with the teens in general shedding the part of themselves that was aided by modern life and societal norms. After Natalie was declared the Antler Queen in season 2’s finale, the upcoming episodes will see the teenagers lose themselves and the people that they were before the plane crash more and more. Rather, they’re becoming the beings that Yellowjackets’ supernatural wilderness wants them to revert to.
