Coronation Street heartbreak ahead as ‘icon’ quits weeks after return
Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) throws a spanner in the works in Coronation Street next week as he reveals Tommy Orpington (Matt Milburn) is moving to Spain.
Viewers have watched in horror as retired Weatherfield County player Tommy has engaged in a steamy affair with street stalwart Tracy McDonald (Kate Ford) over recent months, all while her hapless husband Steve (Simon Gregson) has tried in vain to reignite the spark in their marriage.
The adultery began when Tommy, who is now a painter and decorator, was employed to decorate the couple’s bedroom.
Tracy took full advantage of her husband’s holiday to France and was quick to jump into bed with his footballing hero.
Recent scenes in the ITV soap have seen Steve lay on lavish lunches and buy expensive gifts for her, to no avail – she’d rather play away from home.
Despite Tommy turning down her advances since Steve’s return, Tracy has fallen head over heels for him and doesn’t seem to care about how much hurt she will bring upon her family when the affair is exposed.
This week, Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) helped Gav Adetiba (Noah Olaoye) out with his new window cleaning round and while ascending the ladder, caught Tracy engaging in some lunch time fun.
When he ran home to tell wife Sally (Sally Dynevor) what he saw, he was left confused following her admission that Steve has been driving for Street Cars all day.
As Tracy comes clean to Tim about her wrongdoings next week, she returns home with the intention of confessing everything but is left bowled over when Steve proposes to her – and she says yes.
Later, Kevin tells Steve that he’s heard on the grapevine that Tommy has signed as assistant coach at a football academy in Spain, leaving him intrigued.
Will Tracy seize Tommy’s new opportunity as a way of keeping the affair a secret, or will Tim pressure her to tell all?
