Coronation Street star quits soap after three years on cobbles – with explosive exit storyline kicking off within months
A Coronation Street star is set to quit the soap after three years on the cobbles – with an explosive exit storyline kicking off within months.
Bill Fellows – who plays Stu Carpenter in the soap – will leave later this year, according to The Sun.
The actor, who has also starred in the hit Apple TV show Ted Lasso, has said he is ready to move onto new projects following his time on the ITV show.
A source said: ‘Three years is a long time to spend playing one role and while Bill has loved his time at Corrie, he’s ready to move on.
‘He told bosses earlier this year that he would like to leave at the end of his three year contract and they have crafted an exciting exit storyline for him.
‘He will still be on screen for some time yet but it gave him chance to say yes to a number of jobs he was keen to do later this year.’
The actor, who has also starred in the hit Apple TV show Ted Lasso alongside Jason Sudeikis and Hannah Waddingham, had always planned to leave after three years and will no doubt be starting on new and exciting projects soon.
The actor, who previously worked on Downton Abbey, Broadchurch and Casualty, has had a roller coaster stint on the show.
Fans have watched him recently take thug Mason under his wing after seeing him sleeping rough, harking back to his own experiences on the street.
Stu offered him a job at Yasmeen’s restaurant Speed Daal, ignoring opposition and even giving him his granddaughter’s room at Yasmeen’s house.
But there is a twist in store as Stu still has no idea that Mason was the one who ran his granddaughter Eliza down earlier this year.
Writers have promised fans that Stu will have an explosive exit from the show, which could involve this revelation, and might even see Stu put back behind bars for murder.
Bill is the latest star set to leave the show, hot on the heels of a string of other cast members.
Emrhys Cooper quit the soap in July after just seven months, it has been revealed.
The actor, 39, who plays Rowan Cunliffe, made his debut on the cobbles earlier this year.
Villainous cult leader Rowan has made waves on the soap, having preyed on Leanne and manipulated her into confessing things – which he has secretly recorded and used against her.
But according to The Sun, Rowan will be exiting the soap and instead heading to the St Helen’s Theatre Royal for pantomime at Christmas, where he will play Prince Frederick in Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.
A source said: ‘Emrhys has been a great addition to the street but he does play a dastardly villain and so his story always had a beginning, a middle and an end.’
While some stars have been leaving, others are making shock returns to the cobbles.
Ciaran Griffiths, who played Damon Hay, has recently been seen on set at Media City in Manchester – despite ditching the cobbles after two years to move to Australia in March.
His character Damon is currently behind bars, serving six years in prison for armed robbery.
