Coronation Street favourite Claire Sweeney has taken to social media to share an honest update with her fans as she asked for help with a painful health condition
Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney has reached out to her fans for some much-needed advice regarding a troubling health issue.
The talented actress, who stepped into the role of Cassie Plummer last year, has quickly become a fan favourite with her gripping storyline as she navigates life on the iconic street. This week, viewers watched as Cassie took on a new challenge, becoming the carer for none other than Ken Barlow.
Despite thriving in her role on the beloved ITV soap, 53 year old Claire has taken to Instagram to share a personal struggle with her followers. In a candid post, she revealed: “Having the worst flair up on my skin with my peri oral dermatitis. Please does anyone know a magic cure. It’s so sore!” [sic].
Peri-oral dermatitis is known for causing redness and bumps around the mouth area, and according to the British Association of Dermatologists, it’s typically managed with specific creams.
Claire’s heartfelt plea didn’t go unnoticed, with her Instagram community flooding the comments with messages of support, reports the Liverpool Echo. One sympathised, writing: “Sorry to read about your flare-up. It looks painful. Hope you can get something to help, wishing you all the best.”
Another follower commented: “So sorry Claire. It looks sore. Hopefully you get the right treatment and are feeling good soon.”
A third chimed in with concern, saying: “Sorry to hear about this Claire please take care of yourself xx”.
Claire’s health update comes amid rumours that she’s dating her Dancing On Ice co-star Ricky Hatton.
Ricky, 45, is thought to have been the one to make the first move leading to them going on several dates. An insider told OK! that Ricky is said “besotted” with Claire, and the feelings are very much reciprocated.
A source told us: “Claire’s been very unlucky in the past with her love life but she’s really happy with Ricky. He’s got a kind heart and really makes her laugh.
“That’s the way to Claire’s heart really, making her laugh and she’s been nothing but smiles since meeting Ricky. It’s a very unlikely pairing but they’ve both realised that they actually have so much in common and both really love each other’s company and they’re laughing all the time.”
The source added: “Claire also loves boxing and she likes a rough and tough man and they’re getting on really well.
“I think they’re going to try and get away soon, maybe have a Caribbean holiday, but they’re just enjoying each other’s company for the minute and having a bit of fun.”
Ricky appeared to make his feelings clear as he shared a sweet Instagram tribute to Claire on Wednesday, 17 April. Posting to his Instagram Stories, he shared a snap from behind the scenes on Dancing on Ice, with him dressed in boxing gear, whilst Claire looked glamorous in a ball gown.
