Doctor Who boss finally addresses Mrs Flood mystery as BBC show set for huge twist

Doctor Who boss Russell T Davies has finally addressed the ongoing Mrs Flood mystery, promising fans the “ride of a lifetime”.

The BBC sci-fi programme has been teasing her enigmatic identity throughout the latest season. Mrs Flood was introduced as Ruby Sunday’s neighbour, played by Anita Dobson – but who is the mysterious woman really?

Well fans are about to strap in and find out, as Russell T Davies promised via video message on The Official Doctor Who Podcast: “Christmas is mad and brilliant and exciting! I can tell you that the story as we go into 2025 of Ruby’s family is not quite at an end. There’s more revelations to come.

“But why was Mrs Flood standing on a rooftop making those pronouncements? All I can say is, you are literally in for the ride of a lifetime. Please come back.”

Of course, social media users each have their own theories about her true identity, with one Reddit user theorising that the woman is not a future version of Ruby – played by Coronation Street’s Millie Gibson. User OldBenduKenobi posted: “Of course the main mystery surrounding Mrs Flood is the line she has at the end of Church at the Ruby Road.

“What flabbergasted me and seemed a bit inconsistent was the fact that she drops her bags when TARDIS dematerialises, but talking to a friend, he told me that that is in fact in the alternative universe in which Ruby was taken as baby by the Goblins!!

“That means that in their future adventures Ruby and the Doctor encounter Mrs Flood, or someway or the other change her past. But what that also means is that Mrs Flood is NOT Ruby, or Susan, or Master or River or anyone else seen in the past episodes of the show I think.”

Someone else theorised: “I think she’s masking her real personality. If you see how she reacts to the neighbour who comes running to her, she gaslights him. My theory is that Mrs. Flood is Susan.”

Another social media user echoed: “Wild crazy theory: everyone is talking about the ‘Doctor Who is a TV show now’ theory. So what if Mrs Flood is just someone that watches or works in the TV show? At first, she doesn’t recognise it because the timeline was ok before The Doctor saved baby Ruby.

“But once he corrected the timeline, the TV show started and Mrs Flood recognised the TARDIS because she either is aware of the show or became an extra in it, therefore explaining the fourth wall break.”

And someone else simply wrote: “I just assumed that she was unfamiliar with the Doctor’s TARDIS specifically but knew about [them] in general, so she did think it was a normal police box until she saw it dematerialise.”
