Doctor Who: David Tennant’s One-Off Celebrity Companion Addresses Potential Return
After a celebrity cameo in David Tennant’s Doctor Who episode 16 years ago, a former one-time-companion actor addresses the possibilities of a return.
David Tennant’s one-time Doctor Who companion, Kylie Minogue, addresses whether she would return to Doctor Who. Sixteen years ago, Minogue appeared in Doctor Who’s 2007 Christmas special, “Voyage of the Damned.” Playing a waitress named Astrid Peth, Minogue’s character helps Tennant on an interstellar journey after the TARDIS collides with a spaceship version of the Titanic. Her one-episode stint as Astrid was her only appearance, while Tennant will reprise his role as the Time Lord in Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary specials.
While reading some questions and tweets on Hits Radio’s Answers the Internet, Minogue speaks to whether she would ever return to the Doctor Who universe. Praising her “happy days” acting alongside Tennant, Minogue revealed her openness to reprise her role as Astrid. Check out the full quote from Minogue below:
“It was so amazing to be in such a beloved show and with David Tennant as The Doctor.
Happy days. I wouldn’t mind if Astrid Peth came back, just saying.”
Doctor Who Has Been Full Of Surprising Returns
Given that Astrid appeared in a single Doctor Who episode, it would seem far-fetched to return to the character. In particular, Minogue herself is busy with her music career and may not have time to adhere to a Doctor Who production schedule. Nevertheless, her willingness to return to Doctor Who is an exciting statement for those who enjoyed her one-time companion role.
With the way that the upcoming 60th-anniversary specials and Doctor Who season 14 are going, a return for Astrid Peth would not be completely out of the question. Doctor Who will already see the return of Catherine Tate as Donna Noble and Tennant playing the now-Fourteenth Doctor. While both of these characters are far more central than Astrid, their inclusion exemplifies that the newest Doctor Who era is one of nostalgia for the bygone era of the revival.
Minogue is also not the only Doctor Who member to tease a return as of late. Legendary Doctor Who writer and former showrunner Steven Moffat also left the door open for his return when asked about the show recently. With former Doctor Who talents like Minogue and Moffat pointing towards potential returns, the possibilities for Doctor Who season 14 and the specials became more limitless.
