ITV Coronation Street icon Catherine Tyldesley drops hint about soap return six years after exit
Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley has given an update on her possible return to the ITV soap, six years after she exited the role in a surprise storyline
A Coronation Street icon has dropped a huge hint about returning to the soap – six years after she quit.
Catherine Tyldesley played Eva Price in the ITV soap from 2011 to 2018, taking a brief break back in 2015 when she was pregnant with her first child. She departed the role back in 2018 when she decided to pursue new opportunities in her career.
In her final scenes, Eva decided to go with baby Susie to France, before returning just a few days later for Aidan’s inquest. Adam – who had initially gone with her – changed his mind and decided to stay, whilst Eva made amends with Johnny, Leanne and Toyah before she departed the Cobbles in the back of a taxi and seemingly left for good.
Speaking on Good Morning Britain today to hosts Ben Shephard and Ranvir Singh, she said: “Eva’s making a comeback – everyone thought the same! But never say never. It was just lovely to see everybody.”
Just two weeks ago, Catherine sparked rumours of a return when she headed out to celebrate the birthday of Daniel Brocklebank – one of her former co-stars – alongside a string of other cast members including Harriet Bibby, who plays Summer Spellman, Peter Ash, who plays Paul Foreman on the show, and Tony Maudsley, who plays George Shuttleworth.
Sharing the snap on social media, Daniel thanked his co-stars for celebrating with him, writing: “Birthday meal. I’m so blessed to have these beautiful people in my life. The darkest day of the year & they still all came out. Bless them. The only one missing is the glorious @officialsuecleaver who was also there but not there for the picture. I’m blessed to know you all.”
Back in 2021, Catherine revealed she had been forced to decline a soap return for a big storyline due to scheduling conflicts.
“There was a storyline last year where Leanne’s little boy Oliver got very poorly and unfortunately died, and it made total sense for Eva to come back because why wouldn’t she? And they reached out to me, and it was so unfortunate that I’d already signed to do Viewpoint and the dates, we just couldn’t make it work,” she said.
“As a Corrie fan, I felt like I’d let people down!” she admitted. “Because I really – I’m not one of those actresses that will say ‘no I’m done with Corrie I won’t go back’, I felt like they presented me with this storyline and I was like ‘oh my gosh yeah of course she’d be there, it’s her sister’ and I was just really gutted actually that we couldn’t make it work. Of course I’d nip back, of course I would. It was just such a huge part of my life, and I adore that place, I really do.”
