NOT ON Coronation Street’s Sally Lindsay takes a swipe at soap and says she’d have ‘loved to return’ alongside Suranne Jones

Sally hit out at actors who join Coronation Street just for the fame and showbiz parties

CORONATION Street legend Sally Lindsay has taken a swipe at the ITV soap for “not being asked to return” for poignant TV moment.

The actress, who starred as Shelly Unwin on the ITV soap from 2001-2006, said she would love to return to the cobbles with former co-star Suranne Jones, who played Karen McDonald on the show.

Sally, 50, said she was hoping to make a comeback for long-term character Betty Williams on-screen funeral in 2011.

Actress and singer Betty Driver played the much-loved character for 42 years from 1969 to 2011.

But Sally said that bosses did not reach out to her to discuss a return.

She told Prima magazine “I loved every minute. Suranne and Jennifer James [who played Geena Gregory] are still my best friends – we just had a weekend away in Norfolk together.

“I definitely would have gone back to Corrie for Betty’s [played by the late Betty Driver] funeral because she was a very dear friend. Suranne said she would have done as well, but they never asked us…”

Sally also opened up about people in my industry sometimes telling fibs about childcare.

She went on: “I have an amazing husband. When we had the children, we shared the load fifty-fifty and we’ve always had a structured form of childcare.

“Our darling friend Lisa has been looking after them since they were 10 days old and still looks after them now.

“I think people in my industry sometimes fib about childcare, and there’s no point because it’s all right.

“You’re not abandoning them.

“I don’t have much downtime – like any mum, I’m always just doing washing.”

It comes after Sally hit out at actors who join Coronation Street just for the fame and showbiz parties.

She insisted that landing a part in Corrie doesn’t guarantee that you’ve made it.

She said: “A lot of people, when they join Coronation Street, think it’s all about being famous and… going to awards and that’s it, you’re made. And you’re not. You’re really not.”

Sally has appeared in a number of dramas since leaving Coronation Street, including Scott & Bailey and most recently The Madame Blanc.
