TV legend confirms Coronation Street exit as family watch him film final scenes
Coronation Street star Will Mellor has confirmed he has left the ITV soap once more as Harvey Gaskell.
Harvey first arrived in 2021 as a drug lord controlling the likes of Jacob Hay (Jack James Ryan) and Simon Barlow (Alex Bain).
He then returned a year later for Corrie’s Super Soap Week, breaking out of prison with the intention of getting revenge on Leanne (Jane Danson), who had him arrested.
When he got back to the cobbles, however, Harvey’s plan took a turn when he shot and killed Sam’s (Jude Riordan) mum instead of Leanne.
A few months ago, the killer made a return as part of Adam Barlow’s (Sam Robertson) storyline.
The solicitor is currently working with Harvey in a deal that will involve getting rid of Damon Hay (Ciaran Griffiths), Adam’s enemy and Harvey’s brother.
With Adam developing an appeal case surrounding Natasha’s murder, he recently met up with a man called John Perry, who is prepared to say he killed Sam’s mum – not Harvey.
The gangster’s return only occurred as part of this plot, meaning we will once again say goodbye to Harvey Gaskell in the coming months.
Speaking about filming at Coronation Street once again, and inviting his family to watch him play his character, Will Mellor told OK! Magazine: ‘They [his family] sat and watched the monitor while I did a few scenes. It’s nice for them to see what I do because to get them to sit and watch me on TV is very tough.
‘They don’t watch anything I do. I’m just dad to them…so it was a nice day.’
Away from Coronation Street, Will also features in the hugely successful ITV drama Mr Bates vs The Post Office.
The actor plays Lee Castleton in the four-part series, which follows the story of former sub postmaster Alan Bates who lost his Post Office in north Wales after being accused of theft.
In what’s been known as one of the UK’s ‘biggest miscarriages of justice’, Alan discovered that he was not alone, and there were hundreds of others who had been affected by the scandal, but had done nothing wrong.
Dozens of innocent people were convicted of theft, lost their homes and went into debt, and 236 went to prison. Four people also took their own lives.
Since the drama aired, millions of people have thrown their support behind the real victims of the incident, and have been left devastated after learning of the true story.
