1 Outlander Season 7 Story Hints At Lord John Grey’s Return
Lord John Grey has been absent on Outlander since season 7, episode 2, but multiple storylines hint at his return due to a character needing his help.
The last time Lord John Grey appeared on Outlander was in season 7, episode 2, but some storylines since then have hinted at his return happening soon. After Outlander season 7, episode 2, “The Happiest Place on Earth,” unexpectedly introduced Brianna to her biological half-brother William, Jamie and Lord John had regrettably decided to stop meeting due to their belonging to different sides of the American Revolutionary War. The two’s firm belief that William should never know about his true parentage also adds reasons to Jamie and Lord John’s refusal to meet, although it also stops one of the best friendships from reaching the screens in Outlander season 7.
William’s travels throughout America let him meet Fraser after Fraser in Outlander season 7, ostensibly making it more difficult for Jamie and Lord John’s wishes to be respected, even if, for now, William still managed to avoid meeting Jamie directly. While the war and their wish for Jamie never to meet William are the biggest impediments to Lord John having direct contact with the Frasers, some storylines that Outlander season 7 has brought forward hint at his help soon becoming necessary for one character in particular. This would make Lord John Grey’s return happen relatively soon in Outlander season 7.
Lord John Grey Saves Claire From Captain Richardson’s Clutch In The Books
Outlander season 7 already mentioned Jamie, Claire, and Ian’s trip to Scotland in episode 3, “Death Be Not Proud,” although Cornelius Harnett stopped it by conscripting Jamie to help defend the historical Fort Ticonderoga. Outlander season 7 also introduced Captain Richardson with his personal missions for William, but he can be seen making another character’s life difficult in the Outlander books. Toward An Echo in the Bone’s ending, Richardson has his mind set on arresting Claire for treason. That, coupled with the harrowing news Claire and Lord John received of the ship Jamie and Jenny supposedly were on sinking, leads to the two marrying as he wishes to protect Claire.
Outlander season 7 didn’t make Claire’s repeated troubles with the law explicitly known to Captain Richardson, but British officials knew of her murder charge, as she was on Governor Martin’s ship in the Outlander season 7 premiere. Outlander season 7, episode 6’s capture only put another target on her back, and even though Claire didn’t seem to stay for long in Ticonderoga’s jail after it was recaptured by the British, the military surely knew of her problems with the law and her affiliation to the Continental Army and the revolutionaries. Although only briefly touching upon those stories, Outlander season 7 firmly established Claire as a potential enemy of the Crown.
Jamie & Claire’s Trip To Scotland & Simon Fraser Show John Grey Can Return Soon
Outlander season 7, episode 5’s introduction of Simon Fraser of Balnain also hints at Lord John’s return, as Outlander’s seventh book highlights how Jamie, Claire, and Ian’s trip to Scotland was eventually made possible by his death and wish to be buried in Scotland. Outlander season 7 painted Simon Fraser as a positive figure in his relationship with William, despite his being on evidently opposite sides from Claire and Jamie. The fantasy drama’s focus on Simon Fraser and the timing, as the second Battle of Saratoga is hinted at by Outlander season 7, episode 8’s trailer, suggest his death can possibly happen soon, making Claire, Jamie, and Ian’s trip imminent.
Outlander’s seventh book shortens Claire’s trip to Scotland as she’s needed by Marsali due to Henri-Christian’s illness that requires surgery. As Outlander season 7, episode 8 could potentially conclude with Jamie, Claire, and Ian bringing Simon Fraser’s body to Balnain, Lord John Grey’s return could happen earlier in the second part of Outlander season 7. Whenever that happens, Outlander season 7 will surely spare no twist, as Lord John and the Frasers’ reunion lets multiple storylines overlap in the Outlander books.
