3 reasons we’re sad 911: Lone Star is ending
911: Lone Star is coming to an end after five seasons. Here are the top three reasons we’re sad that it’s ending.
We know that all good things eventually have to come to an end. That doesn’t mean we’re happy that 911: Lone Star is ending.
Season 5 is officially the last. It’s not clear if it was written that way, although it seems like that is possible based on some comments from the creative team. However, everyone kept telling us not to worry about the show coming to an end, leaving us with a few doubts.
It’s not the sudden decision that makes us unhappy, though. We’re sad 911: Lone Star is ending for these three reasons.
There’s no Grace Ryder in 911: Lone Star season 5
This last season has not been the same. Sierra McClain chose to leave the series when there were issues with pay. It led to Grace Ryder coming out of the story, and the show just doesn’t work that well without her. There is something about Grace taking control of an emergency situation over the phone that nobody else has managed, not even Maddie on 911 on ABC.
Plus, we don’t have Grace and Judd in the final season. It’s meant that Judd has gone down a dark path without her, and that makes us miss what brought us into this show in the first place. We wish there could have been a way to have Grace in at the end, but that’s not happening.
There are still underserved characters in 911: Lone Star
The series has always focused heavily on Owen Strand. While that made sense to start the series, usually, a show will step back from its lead male to make sure the rest of the characters get a chance to shine. TK and Judd are the two that got a lot of time, and we have seen a fair bit of Tommy over the seasons. However, there are still some underserviced characters.
We had hoped that 911: Lone Star season 5 would correct that problem. It hasn’t. While there’s been a little more of Carlos, he’s still the most underused character in the series. We need a spin-off to do Carlos’s story justice.
We lose a story with a lot of diversity
While Owen Strand is the lead, there are many diverse characters in the series. This is one that focuses on ensuring everyone has someone they can connect to. TK and Carlos are the gay couple to root for, while we have people of color through Matteo and Marjan. Paul is a trans man, and we have a Black woman in a position of authority through Tommy.
This series hasn’t let us down with diversity. And it’s done a somewhat good job of showcasing some bigotry, racism, and more through these characters. It’s just not done enough, and losing the show means losing this potential as well as the diverse cast.
