5 Questions The Rookie Season 6 Has To Answer
The Rookie season 5 ended on multiple cliffhangers, and as the show heads into season 6, there are 5 questions that need to be answered.
The Rookie season 6 premiere is still a ways away (and unknown due to the ongoing writers’ strike), but that doesn’t mean that speculation about what will happen in the new episodes stops. There are many questions that the upcoming season needs to answer, especially after the season 5 finale left fans with a handful of cliffhangers. From the fates of characters to an intriguing new Big Bad, season 6 has a lot of explaining to do.
The finale took many twists and turns but didn’t tie up the season 5 story in a neat little bow. So when new episodes air, they will likely pick up where the previous season left off. The season 6 premiere of The Rookie should answer, or at least address, five questions that linger from season 5.
5. Will Aaron Survive The Rookie Season 5 Finale?
The Rookie season 5, episode 22 started with masked criminals attacking Aaron Thorsen and Celina Juarez. One shot Aaron in the back, and an ambulance rushed him to the hospital, where he remained in critical condition for the rest of the hour. At the end of the finale, Aaron started coding, and a swarm of doctors and nurses rushed into his hospital room while Celina looked on in despair. As a result, The Rookie fans were left to wonder if Aaron would make it to season 6 or if he would die from his gunshot wounds in the opening minutes of the premiere.
The ABC series proved during its first season that it wasn’t afraid to kill off any of its characters. The only one who is (presumably) safe is John Nolan, given that he is the show’s namesake. So it wouldn’t be entirely surprising if Aaron didn’t survive The Rookie season 5 finale, but it would still be heartbre aking given that it never felt like he reached his full potential in the show.
4. Who Will The Rookie Season 6’s New Villain Be?
One of the biggest shocks of The Rookie season 5 finale arrived in its last few minutes when a black SUV drove toward downtown Los Angeles while every cop in the city drove away from it. Inside, a man cackled and said, “That is money well spent! Weaponizing Luke Moran against the LAPD has driven every cop in the city away from our target. And by the time they’ve realized the damage we’ve done, we’ll be long gone.” While the characters (and the audience) assumed that Luke was the mastermind behind the attacks, he was just a pawn in someone else’s game.
The mystery man inside the SUV who hired Luke doesn’t have a name yet, but he is played by Kristian Bruun. When The Rookie season 6 premieres, fans will undoubtedly learn more about his character and his evil plans for Los Angeles. Whether it’s a bomb, a deadly virus, or something even more nefarious remains to be seen. But given that The Rookie writers decided to end season 5 with him, this villain is probably unlike any other Big Bads that came before him, and the characters will have their hands full in the upcoming season.
3. What Is Elijah Planning From Prison?
Even though it looks like The Rookie is moving onto another villain, season 5 contained the promise that fans haven’t seen the last of Elijah Stone. Elijah was arrested and thrown in jail in season 5, episode 17, where he met his new neighbor — Oscar Hutchinson. When Oscar offered to let Elijah peruse his book collection, Elijah asked if he had any revenge stories. So an Elijah spotting in season 6 is imminent.
The show’s tease of a possible team-up between Elijah and Oscar (two of the show’s most notorious villains) is intriguing, even though one could argue that Elijah has been overused in the series. Nevertheless, the writers shouldn’t ignore Elijah’s revenge comment. Perhaps he and Oscar can return in a one-off episode in The Rookie season 6, and Angela Lopez, Wesley Evers, and the rest of the Mid-Wilshire crew can finally get closure regarding Elijah
2. Will Nolan & Bailey Get Married In The Rookie Season 6?
Aside from death and villains, The Rookie season 6 must address a couple of romance queries, starting with Nolan and Bailey Nune’s impending nuptials. The two have been dating since season 4, and they’ve been engaged since Bailey asked for Nolan’s hand in marriage in season 5, episode 4. Unfortunately, since then, there has been little to no talk on the wedding front, aside from an offhand comment about there being only two people invited to the ceremony.
When season 6 premieres, there needs to be more clarity about what’s next for Nolan and Bailey, whether that’s marriage, a breakup, or anything in between. Aside from Chenford, the two are one of the main couples of the series, and fans deserve some follow-through on where their relationship is headed. If Nolan and Bailey are planning a wedding, The Rookie season 6 needs to explore that story instead of letting it fall by the wayside for the majority of a season.
1. Will Chenford Break Up In The Rookie Season 6?
One of the crowning moments in The Rookie season 5 was when Tim Bradford and Lucy Chen, aka Chenford, finally started dating. Despite the imminent bliss, there were a few problems in their relationship, and some have yet to be solved. Tim’s move to Metro made their work life easier, but Lucy’s failure to communicate with Tim about her hand in getting him the new job led to their first fight. They eventually made up, but then Lucy lied again about how her schemes lessened her chances of becoming a detective. Plus, Lucy’s dream of being an undercover cop will undoubtedly lead to friction between the couple.
There’s no doubt that Tim and Lucy have the ability to work through these issues. However, given that they’re living inside a drama series doesn’t bode well for them. There’s a high chance that Chenford breaks up in The Rookie season 6, but hopefully, this hypothetical separation doesn’t last too long.
