5 Things The Handmaid’s Tale Fans Won’t Accept S6 Without
Such a long wait needs to pay off.
The longer we wait for the final season of The Handmaid’s Tale, the more ideas the fandom comes up with. Viewers, bored without their favorite show, end up discussing the craziest theories, some of which may turn out to be true when the season is released.
What will happen to Serena and June? Will Luke be able to escape captivity? How will Gilead punish Janine? These and many other questions about the upcoming season are still weighing on the audience’s shoulders without a clear answer.
With no set filming dates, and therefore no scheduled release date, fans are left to speculate about what’s to come. Here are 5 things The Handmaid’s Tale season 6 needs to address to make sure the fandom is satisfied before the show ends.
The Fall of Gilead
The finale wouldn’t be as satisfying if we didn’t see something leading up to Gilead’s inevitable fall. Whether it’s a jump to the future where we see the survivors living their lives freely, or just the first signs of the system failing, the audience wants to see Gilead at its worst. That’s the least we all deserve.
A Major Love Interest Twist
Right now, June is stuck between Luke and Nick as her two love interests. While Luke has been faithful to her throughout her time in Gilead, Nick has been the man who has helped her through the worst of times. It’s clear that one has to go, and the other would be the endgame. Viewers can only hope that the resolution of this triangle doesn’t end in blood.
June and Hannah Reunion
If there’s one person June cares about the most, it’s Hannah. And Season 6 of The Handmaid’s Tale must somehow wrap up this storyline. Those fans with a more positive outlook believe that Hannah will be saved and reunited with her mother. Those who have already been too traumatized by the show worry that June will get hurt trying.
Janine’s Survival
One person the audience doesn’t want to see dead is Janine. There are many ways to keep her alive but still punished, and viewers are betting that taking out her tongue is one of them. After all, we’ve seen enough inconsistencies in Gilead’s punishments throughout the series that Janine’s fate will be entirely up to them.
The Testaments Setup
What viewers can be sure of now is that either the entire arc of season six, or at least the finale of the show, will lead up to The Testaments, an already confirmed spinoff that is currently in development. Depending on how closely the production team follows the book, there will have to be a lot of focus on Aunt Lydia and her character development.
