9-1-1: Buck & Eddie’s Season 8 Dynamic, And Tommy’s Reaction, Teased By Star
9-1-1 star Oliver Stark teases Buck’s dynamic with Eddie, and Tommy’s reaction to it, in the new season. 9-1-1 season 8 has officially debuted new episodes. Although the first of the three-part premiere is largely focused on introducing the season’s bee-related disaster, there is a scene of Buck (Stark) and Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.) trying to help Eddie (Ryan Guzman) reconcile with his son.
In an interview with Screen Rant, Stark was asked about how “Eddie has always been the person that Buck is most vulnerable with, and vice versa,” and whether that would create any issues for Buck’s boyfriend Tommy. In the quote below, Stark says that Eddie and his son Christopher are “obviously hugely important in Buck’s life.” He adds that there is no jealousy from Tommy’s side about Buck’s closeness with Eddie:
No, I don’t think so. I think we even see in the first episode that Eddie and Christopher are obviously hugely important in Buck’s life, and Tommy is able to come along for that ride. He’s helping set up the surprise party. There’s no jealousy from Tommy towards Buck and Eddie’s closeness. That’s not going to throw any difficulties into that situation.
What Stark’s Comments Could Mean For 9-1-1 Season 8
The premiere episode, titled “Buzzkill,” does not have a lot of space for the show’s personal dynamics, as it’s busy setting up the main storylines for the upcoming stretch. But there is a scene of Buck and Tommy enjoying a moment as they’re preparing to surprise Christopher (Gavin McHugh) on a video call. Christopher, understandably, is still not ready to forgive his dad over his lie about cheating with a woman that looks exactly like Christopher’s dead mom.
“Buzzkill,” which is written by Molly Green & James Leffler, with James Wong directing, may be setting up Eddie’s arc for the early episodes. Co-creator and showrunner Tim Minear teased that Buck may not have as much time to spend with Eddie, given his new relationship with Tommy, which would leave Eddie feeling a little bit isolated. That feeling would likely be compounded by everything that’s going on with his son since the 9-1-1 season 7 finale.
Our Take On Buck, Eddie & Tommy’s Dynamic In Season 8
Because of the impact of the 2023 writers and actors strikes, 9-1-1 season 7 had only ten episodes. There wasn’t enough time to really dig into how the introduction of Tommy changes the group dynamic as a result. I hope that, regardless of what happens between Eddie, Buck, and Tommy, the increased episode count means that these different dynamics will play out over time, and that the show will deliver some standout Buck and Eddie moments.
