9-1-1: Lone Star boss on that shocking d/e/a/thbed reveal: Carlos will be free from ‘bondage’ of dad’s m/u/r/der
Co-showrunner Rashad Raisani discusses the final moments of season 5, episode 8 of the Fox drama.
Carlos is one step closer to solving his father’s murder.
In the final moments of Monday’s episode of 9-1-1: Lone Star, the Texas Ranger (played by Rafael Silva) was told by a dying informant that Carlos’ dad, Gabriel (Benito Martinez), had been wary of Ranger Campbell (Parker Young) prior to being gunned down at the end of season 4.
Season 5, episode 8 of the Fox drama ended with Ranger Campbell asking Carlos if the informant told him anything and Carlos lying. But in the preview of episode 9 that aired at the end of the telecast, it’s seen that Campbell is on the run. (And it looks like Carlos gets shot?!)
“All truth is laid bare for Carlos,” 9-1-1: Lone Star co-showrunner Rashad Raisani tells Entertainment Weekly of what to expect in the midseason finale (airing Dec. 3, after a repeat episode next Monday). “In some ways it’s the end of Carlos’ mission. Well, it’s the end of his quest but the beginning of his life’s mission, meaning he will get to the bottom of who killed his father and it will be painful and exhilarating and peace-giving, but it only opens his eyes to a deeper possibility of who Carlos can be now that he’s solved that murder.”
That will hopefully bleed into Carlos’ personal life, as his obsession with solving Gabriel’s murder has weighed on his marriage to TK (Ronen Rubinstein) — most recently keeping him from supporting TK’s desire to adopt his baby brother, Jonah, after his stepfather Enzo’s imprisonment.
“In a way he’s released from this bondage he’s been in so he can grow into the full-fledged man he’s meant to be, which is where I hope viewers feel like we leave him at the end of the season,” adds Raisani, who says that it was while crafting this eighth episode that the writers “were definitely starting to think about What is the endgame for this series and where do we want to end” as they head toward the series finale this coming spring.
Raisani also previously teased a big Judd (Jim Parrack) storyline in the works.
“We’ve been putting little clues in some of the scenes with Judd that will come out,” Raisani told EW after last week’s episode, which made a point to show Judd drinking in a corner alone at TK’s birthday party. “There a fuse that’s been quietly lit in him, but this is sort of the final thing that falls against Judd that will come to… It’ll explode into the open in episode 10, but it’s there underneath.”
