9-1-1 Season 8 Filming Start Window Revealed By Chimney Actor After Record-Setting Season 7 Premiere

9-1-1 star Kenneth Choi, who plays Howard Han in the first-responder drama, shares an exciting update on season 8’s filming. Moving from Fox to ABC for a shortened 9-1-1 season 7, the long-running show quickly reached highs. The premiere episode nabbed close to 9 million viewers across three days and multiple platforms and scored a 1.84 in the coveted 18-49 demographic. That’s the highest number the show has managed on that metric since May 2022, prompting the renewal for 9-1-1 season 8.

In an interview with Screen Rant at the Tribeca Film Festival while talking about his movie All That We Love, Choi gave a filming update on the already-confirmed 9-1-1 season 8. Although the actor couldn’t provide any plot specifics for the upcoming episodes, except to mention that they’d likely include “probably a lot of turmoil, a lot of trauma and disasters,” the actor confirmed that filming would begin in July. Read his full quote below:

I don’t know! They just started the writers’ room, so we have no idea what’s going to happen. Probably a lot of turmoil, a lot of trauma and disasters. We really have no idea. They just started the writers room, I think, last Monday. We start in July.

9-1-1 Season 8 Has A Lot Of Story Threads To Pick Up

As much as 9-1-1 season 7 intensifies the plot development, some viewers criticized it as being too rushed and lacking in the team dynamics that make the drama shine.

9-1-1 season 7 was a shorter season than usual, consisting of ten episodes, because of the impact that the writers’ and actors’ strikes had on scheduling. But in that shorter timeframe, 9-1-1’s cast of characters experienced a lot of stories. Howard and Maddie got married, though not before Howard experienced a life-threatening crisis. And the ten episodes were just as eventful for the rest of the ensemble.

Buck realized his romantic attraction to Tommy, coming out to his friends in the 118. Bobby and Athena reaffirmed their relationship after a cruise ship disaster in the three-part premiere, though Bobby is no longer the 118’s leader by the end of 9-1-1 season 7. Hen and Karen experienced adoption troubles, with Hen becoming an enemy of a powerful figure. The relationship between Eddie and his son Christopher is also altered, as Christopher is upset with his father and opts to live with his grandparents in Texas.
