9-1-1 Season 8’s Nuisance Character Is To Blame For Eddie’s Shock Exit

Eddie scared Buck (and the audience) during the 9-1-1 season 8 fall finale when he started looking at homes for sale in Texas, and one recurring character is to blame for his plan to move. Ryan Guzman’s character has been trying to find ways to connect with his son, Christopher (who now lives in Texas with his grandparents), all season long. However, the distance has taken its toll on Eddie. As a result, Eddie might exit 9-1-1 during season 8, devastating Buck and every viewer who loves him.

Buck’s reaction to Eddie’s potential 9-1-1 departure will undoubtedly be heartbreaking, especially if he goes through with the move. Nevertheless, Eddie’s desire to leave Los Angeles is understandable. He wants to be near Christopher to continue repairing their relationship and ensuring that they don’t drift too far apart. Eddie has been feeling the physical and emotional distance between him and Christopher growing in 9-1-1 season 8, and one character encouraged him to do whatever it takes to stop it in episode 8, “Wannabes.”

Brad’s Talk About His Son Fully Convinced Eddie To Move To Texas In 9-1-1

Callum Blue’s recurring 9-1-1 season 8 character, Brad Torrance, is the one who convinced Eddie to take the leap and move to Texas during the midseason finale. Brad is an actor who stars in Hotshots, a fictional firefighter TV show. Bobby served as a consultant on the set of Hotshots, which is how Brad factors into 9-1-1 season 8’s story.

In 9-1-1 season 8, episode 8, Brad and Eddie have a heart-to-heart conversation about their respective strained relationships with their sons. Brad prioritized his career over his child, which he deeply regrets. So, Brad warned Eddie, “Don’t let that gap between you grow another inch,” in reference to his separation from Christopher. Eddie took this advice to heart, which is why Buck caught him looking at Texas homes on the internet. Eddie doesn’t want to grow estranged from his son like Brad did. To prevent that, Eddie believes he must move to Texas to be closer to Christopher.

Is Eddie Really Leaving 118 & 9-1-1

The good news (at least, for viewers who want Eddie to stay) is that neither ABC nor the 9-1-1 crew have confirmed Ryan Guzman’s exit from the series. Instead, they’re dancing around questions concerning the actor’s departure. While speaking to Screen Rant, showrunner Tim Minear addressed the 9-1-1 season 8 cliffhanger. He explained:

“I would say, let’s talk about [Eddie]. The character is dead serious about doing whatever he has to do to repair his relationship with his kid. And so we’re not throwing chum into the water to attract controversy. That’s really what this character is thinking of doing, and he means it. And we’re going to explore that when we come back.”

The idea of Guzman’s Eddie leaving 9-1-1 remains possible based on Minear’s comments. However, if he was truly exiting the ABC procedural drama, one would think his departure would have been officially announced or confirmed. It seems as if Minear and co. are keeping the door open for Eddie’s exit to build intrigue around the upcoming 9-1-1 season 8 episodes, but only time will tell what the future holds for Guzman’s character.
