9-1-1 Spinoff In the Works at ABC: Here’s Everything We Know So Far
Good things come in threes, and that includes 9-1-1‘s.
While it’s true that 9-1-1: Lone Star is ending on Monday, Feb. 3 (8/7c) after five seasons, there’s plenty of life left in Ryan Murphy Productions’ first responder franchise, so you can rest assured that flagship series 9-1-1 won’t be alone for much longer.
In fact, a second spinoff is already in active development at ABC, promising all the relationship drama, over-the-top emergencies and general ridiculousness of 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star — this time in an entirely different city with a new cast of characters.
Read on for a complete breakdown of everything we know about the second 9-1-1 spinoff so far, then drop a comment with your own hopes for the franchise’s next chapter. Where should it take place? And which faces, new or familiar, would you like to see on screen?
Has the 9-1-1 Spinoff Cast Been Announced?
Because 9-1-1‘s second spinoff is still in the development stage, we don’t know which characters we can expect to see — so we definitely don’t know who will be playing them. It’s also not yet known whether the spinoff will revolve around someone we’ll first meet on 9-1-1, or if it will follow an entirely fresh face.
When Will the 9-1-1 Spinoff Premiere on ABC?
Nothing is set in stone, but ABC is reportedly looking to debut 9-1-1‘s next chapter during the 2025–2026 TV season, likely in fall 2025.
Will Any 9-1-1: Lone Star Characters Join the Spinoff?
With 9-1-1: Lone Star reaching what many fans consider to be an early conclusion, it could be fun for a few characters to continue their stories on the spinoff. Fun… but not likely.
“I have no current plans for that,” 9-1-1 showrunner Tim Minear recently told TVLine. “But it’s not impossible!”
Possible Setting: Las Vegas
After making its mark on Los Angeles and Austin, the 9-1-1 franchise could be feeling lucky with its third iteration; when news of the spinoff was first reported on Oct. 1, Las Vegas was listed as a potential setting.
Possible Setting: Hawaii
Of course, Vegas could be totally wiped out by a second option — the Aloha State. Deadline reported on Oct. 29 that Hawaii had emerged as a new frontrunner for the spinoff’s setting.
Ironically, Fox — the network which 9-1-1: Lone Star still calls home — already has a procedural about first responders in Hawaii, and it even stars former 9-1-1 actress Arielle Kebbel. (Rescue: HI-Surf, anyone?)
