‘9-1-1’ Star Aisha Hinds Reacts to Show’s Move to ABC (Exclusive)
9-1-1 series cast member Aisha Hinds calls the show’s pickup by ABC “a blessing” after Fox canceled the drama.
In an exclusive interview with Urban Hollywood 411, the actress spoke from the Writers Guild of America strike picket line outside Paramount Studios in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
“Seven seasons of a show is an anomaly in this landscape these days, so to have the opportunity to do the show for yet another season is a blessing unto itself and for us to be so welcomed over at ABC is a joy and a treasure, ” she said. “We’re all looking forward to it and we’re excited.”
“We’re glad that our family will be together, our crew will be together, our writers will be together, and that we can continue to tell these stories that are so impactful,” Hinds added.
The actress carried a WGA picket sign in a show of solidarity with writers on day 9 of the strike.
“Solidarity is sacred. It’s important for us to band together,” she said.
Hinds plays Los Angeles paramedic Henrietta “Hen” Wilson on 9-1-1.
As previously reported, the first responder drama was not picked up for another season by its original home, Fox, despite it being the network’s most-watched show.
Costs were said to be a factor in the decision.
ABC didn’t miss a beat and immediately picked up the series created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear.
9-1-1, starring Angela Bassett and Peter Krause, will join ABC’s 2023-2024 television season, the network said in a statement.
“It’s a privilege to keep 9-1-1 in the family with 20th Television producing, and we look forward to telling more heart-racing and uplifting stories about these beloved characters on our air,” said Craig Erwich, president of Disney Television Group.
9-1-1 first premiered on Fox in 2018 and ran on the network for six seasons.
ABC will reveal a premiere date for the series’ seventh season at a later date.
