What’s about to happen next on 9-1-1? According to Jennifer Love Hewitt, fans are going to be stunned by where the show is going — and how her character Maddie Buckley will be involved.
The season 8 midseason premiere of the ABC drama is set to air on Thursday, March 6, 2025, and fans are so ready to get back in step with the folks at the 118. But Jennifer decided to tease folks with a shocking storyline involving her character, and the tease came while speaking on the December 10 episode of the I’ve Never Said This Before podcast.
When speaking about what fans can expect from Maddie in the back half of 9-1-1 season 8, host Tommy DiDario asked the Inheriting Magic author if the emergency dispatcher finds herself in a bit of danger. Jennifer not only revealed Maddie (who is pregnant with baby #2!) gets involved in a kidnapping, she added how it was like nothing she ever filmed before for the show.
“It is the craziest thing I’ve ever done on 9-1-1,” she stated in a clip posted on X (formerly Twitter). “That’s all I can say. The audience is not ready. I was not ready. I don’t know if you can tell, but my voice is kind of out — it has been this way since we filmed it… It’s wild, but it was so fun. I can’t wait for people to see it.”
OK, then, Jennifer! Given how Maddie has gone through quite a bit over the past eight seasons (including getting stalked by her ex-husband, going through postpartum depression and uncovering the past trauma she experienced during her childhood), this is definitely a storyline that feels fitting to the show.
And while it will still be some time before new episodes of 9-1-1 air on ABC, we already got a taste of what’s to come with a season 8 episode 9 promo that aired in November. Between Maddie’s kidnapping and Athena Grant-Nash (Angela Bassett) realizing a serial killer is on the loose, there’s definitely a lot in store.
