Insane The Handmaid’s Tale Fan Theory That Will Make You Hate Serena Even More
Everything is possible in Gilead…
When The Handmaid’s Tale first aired in 2017, it became an instant hit. The dark dystopian story of women trapped as sex slaves in the new totalitarian country of Gilead is hard to believe, which makes it even harder to accept.
During the show’s five seasons there was a lot going on. We went from closing our eyes at the first rape scene to trembling in pleasant horror when the handmaids of Gilead were brutally killing Commander Fred.
Fred Waterford was one of the main characters of the show, alongside his wife Serena. June Osborne was their handmaid. And no matter how many times the horrible couple raped June, she only got pregnant when Serena arranged another rape, with Nick. And only after that she was with child — baby Nichole was later born.
That could have meant only one thing: Fred is infertile. But later in the show’s season 4 Serena got pregnant after all! So what does that mean? Did something change with Fred’s health, and he became fertile? Or maybe… Serena just cheated?
This conspiracy theory is not very popular among fans, although many of them believe that this is possible, considering Serena’s personality.
“I could totally see Serena, while heartbroken after baby Nichole was taken to Canada, forced Nick to have sex with her so she could have a baby of her own. I would love that twist,” Redditor Ok-Big-Fudge9283 said.
With this in mind, many fans also suggested that lawyer Truello could be the father, although this theory is less popular.
However, to put an end to the debates, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the show’s creator, Bruce Miller, hinted that, against all odds, Fred might actually be the father. The simple explanation was, “Well, Gilead works,” meaning they actually did a lot to create a cleaned-up country to increase fertility.
Well, now that baby Noah was finally born in season 5 of the show, we guess that the upcoming season 6 will reveal all the secrets.
