Although every show in the Power universe is critically acclaimed and mostly well-liked by audiences, Power Book II: Ghost is considered the worst.
Power Book II: Ghost is the second crime drama television series set in the Power universe on Starz, and many consider it the worst one out of the four chapters in the franchise. The spinoff premiered on September 6, 2020, a few months following the Power series finale, and is a direct sequel to the first show. Even though the second spinoff is well-regarded, every series in the Power universe is. As a result, Power Book II: Ghost is considered the weakest of them all.
As of the writing of this article, Power Book II: Ghost consists of three seasons and 30 episodes (with more on the way since Starz renewed the show for a fourth season). The series revolves around Tariq St. Patrick, played by Michael Rainey Jr., and his life following the events of Power season 6. Other characters include Shane Johnson as Cooper Saxe, Gianni Paolo as Brayden Weston, Lovell Adams-Gray as Dru Tejada, Paige Hurd as Lauren Baldwin, Woody McClain as Lorenzo “Cane” Tejada Jr., Method Man as Davis MacLean, LaToya Tonodeo as Diana Tejada, and Mary J. Blige as Monet Stewart Tejada. However, one significant character is noticeably missing from the show.
The Title Of Power Book II Is Misleading (Ghost Isn’t In It)
One significant reason why Power Book II: Ghost is the weakest of the four Power television shows is because of its title. Ghost implies that the character of Ghost — James “Ghost” St. Patrick — is in the Starz series, but Omari Hardwick, who played Ghost in Power, never shows up (which makes sense, given his fate in the first television show). So, while the names of the other chapters in the franchise make sense, the second series’ title is misleading. Of course, it centers around Ghost’s son, but one would think it would revolve around Ghost himself.
Ghost was such a beloved character in the original show, so if viewers go into Power Book II: Ghost thinking that he is going to be in it, they will be very disappointed. Unfortunately, the main character, Tariq St. Patrick, is not as compelling as his father was in Ghost. Consequentially, the sequel is regarded as the worst series in the Power universe.
Why Audiences Love Power’s Ghost So Much
Ghost was a fan-favorite character because he was the first protagonist in the critically acclaimed and universally loved Power universe. He was easy to root for, given his dedication to his family and his overall likability. Plus, Ghost embodied what the television series was all about — power. He was the furthest thing from a saint, and despite his deception, greed, and ambition, audiences loved Ghost, which is why Power Book II: Ghost is a bit of a disappointment when compared to the other shows.
