“She has more appearances to come…”
Doctor Who boss Russell T Davies has addressed Yasmin Finney’s future in the sci-fi programme as Rose Noble.
Finney, who is best known for her role in Netflix’s Heartstopper, appears in Doctor Who’s trio of 60th anniversary specials as the daughter of Catherine Tate’s Donna Temple-Noble.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Doctor Who showrunner and executive producer Davies has revealed that the final instalment of the trio of episodes before the customary Christmas special will not be the last time viewers see Rose.
“I was writing a trans character who’s a teenager, part of a London family, of mixed race, and that’s an unusual set of conditions for a character to meet,” he said.
Continuing, Davies confirmed that there’s more Rose on the way.
“The list of people who would audition for that is not very long. Along came Yasmin, and we just closed the door after that, because there she was!” he explained, adding: “She’s absolutely terrific, and she has more appearances to come, simply because I adore working with her.”
Finney has so far starred in ‘The Star Beast’, which also featured Miriam Margolyes as the cute-but-deadly Beep the Meep.
The third 60th anniversary special, titled ‘The Giggle’ features Neil Patrick Harris as the classic Doctor Who villain The Toymaker.
After that, the next Doctor Who instalment will be its Christmas special, ‘The Church on Ruby Road’, which will introduce Ncuti Gatwa to the role of the titular Time Lord, and see him joined by new companion Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson).
