911’s Oliver Stark Sheds Some Light on Massive Buddie Mania
There’s more to come in season 7.
It’s no secret that if 911 fans had been given a blank check to make any changes they wanted to the show, Buck and Eddie would have ended up confessing their long-hidden love for each other within a few episodes.
Even though 6 seasons after the initial release of the show and 5 seasons together as friends, neither of them has ever shown even the slightest interest in men, the overwhelming number of viewers still believe that there is something much more romantic in the basis of their bond other than friendship. However, the feelings must be very repressed.
These two characters are definitely not the first to be shipped without ever becoming canon. In fact, many viewers are starting to compare them to Supernatural ‘s Destiel, accusing 911 of the same queerbaiting tactics that The CW hit has chosen. The only difference is that 911 still has time to fix the problem.
After all, even the actors themselves admit that there is something utterly unique about the dynamic that Buck and Eddie display.
Will Buck and Eddie Get Together in 911?
Even though it looks like both Buck and Eddie will be involved in some side romances, there is no way the production team will pass up the opportunity to show more of their relationship. Especially since the writers and actors are completely on board with the idea.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Oliver Stark shared what was one of the most interesting aspects of Buck and Eddie’s relationship for him, and what made the dynamic so fun to explore through seasons:
“I think it’s just really lovely to see these two stereotypically macho men have this really open relationship where they can confide in each other and they can step up and be there for each other in a way that feels very soft,” the actor said.
Platonic or not, the kind of warm, gentle and open relationship that the two 911 firefighters have is still rare between two men on television.
Though many believe them to be soulmates in the most romantic sense of the word, Buddie’s friendship is just as sacred. If anything, the fact that they are both presumably straight only adds to the fight against the stereotypical image of toxic masculinity.
Whether you agree with Oliver Stark and find this portrayal of gentle male friendship to be the most charming part of the Buck and Eddie dynamic, or have some other reason for loving them, be sure to tune in to ABC and not miss the season 7 premiere of 911.
