Orlando Bloom calls The Rings of Power ‘courageous’
‘It’s not an easy thing to take on another version of something that had such a remarkable run of its own’
Orlando Bloom has praised The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power as “courageous”.
Bloom, who rose to fame playing Legolas in Peter Jackson’s adaptation of JRR Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy, had nothing but good things to say about the prequel series produced by Amazon.
Speaking to the Radio Times, Bloom said: “I had missed Tolkien. I had missed Tolkien’s mind and I’d missed his world and I’d missed his vision – and I think they just stepped back into Tolkien’s world. I thought it was really courageous.”
He added: “It’s not an easy thing to take on another version of something that had such a remarkable run of its own, but I thought it was really admirable; the casting, the story and the way they approached the world… I’m looking forward to more of it.”
Bloom also praised the show for putting its own spin on Middle Earth: “Peter [Jackson] did an amazing job, obviously, with The Lord of the Rings and we got to play these great characters. But they’ve kind of gone back and gone, ‘Look, these characters still exist in this world and we can show you other aspects of them’. I was like, ‘Cool, I’m down for that!’”
The Rings of Power is currently filming its second season with the show expected to run for five seasons as part of Amazon’s $1 billion agreement with Tolkien’s estate.
The second season of The Rings of Power is not expected to air until 2024.
Like the films, the show features a large ensemble cast including Morfydd Clark as Galadriel and Robert Aramayo as Elrond who were originally played by Cate Blanchett and Hugo Weaving in Jackson’s trilogy.
The show also features Australian actor Charlie Vickers as a human verson of Sauron.
