Nolan and Bailey are currently engaged in The Rookie, but once season 6 premieres, the couple shouldn’t actually go through with getting married.
John Nolan and Bailey Nune got engaged early in The Rookie season 5, but they shouldn’t walk down the aisle and say “I do” in a season 6 wedding. The two have been together since the beginning of season 4, and their relationship became very serious very fast. They’ve experienced some obstacles along the way, but Nolan and Bailey seem determined to stick together no matter what.
Nolan has had multiple love interests in the past five seasons, and Bailey’s the woman he’s been the most committed to. However, a few clues here and there suggest the couple isn’t built to last. For example, Nolan and Bailey’s engagement, which came after Bailey almost died at the hands of the infamous serial killer Rosalind Dyer, seemed almost to be an afterthought. So when The Rookie season 6 premieres, the writers would be making a mistake if Nolan and Bailey married without addressing their evident issues.
The Rookie Season 5 Hinted At A Breakup Between Nolan And Bailey
Throughout The Rookie season 5, the writers dropped various teases that alluded to Nolan and Bailey breaking up. They would be remiss to ignore these problems and rush the couple down the aisle in season 6. It wouldn’t make sense for the story and would cause a ripple of plot holes.
In The Rookie season 5, episode 4, Rosalind trapped Bailey and lured Nolan away from the scene. She gave him a proposition; to save Bailey’s life, he had to kill Rosalind. Ultimately, Nolan couldn’t bring himself to shoot the villain, but thankfully, the other characters were able to rescue Bailey. Of course, taking a human life is a difficult decision, but it’s suspicious that Nolan wasn’t willing to sacrifice a ruthless serial killer to save the supposed love of his life. After Nolan and Bailey rushed into an engagement, she struggled to move in with him, and once she did, an earthquake destroyed a gnome that Nolan claimed would bring the couple good luck. Later, Nolan forgot that Bailey was his fiancée, and The Rookie rarely mentioned what they had planned for their wedding. Based on these circumstances, it wouldn’t make sense for Nolan and Bailey to get married in season 6.
The Rookie Already Has A More Compatible Love Interest For Nolan
If the writers choose to make the aforementioned issues in Nolan and Bailey’s relationship mean something in The Rookie season 6, there’s a strong possibility they will break up. Losing Bailey’s character wouldn’t hurt the show since her only strong tie is to Nolan (and perhaps Celina). Plus, if Nolan and Bailey call off their wedding, The Rookie already contains another possible love interest for Nolan — Genny Bradford.
Genny is Tim Bradford’s sister, and in The Rookie season 5, episode 9, she officially moved to Los Angeles with her two sons following her divorce. Nolan helped Genny move into her new home, and viewers couldn’t help but notice there was some chemistry between the two characters. Their chemistry, plus their similar backgrounds, could make for a match made in heaven in The Rookie season 6.
