The series follows first responders in Texas and is a spin-off from the action-packed 9-1-1, which follows first responders in Los Angeles. 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 is set to continue intensive storylines that were introduced in season 4, yet the show’s seemingly imminent end tempers any excitement.
While 9-1-1: Lone Star has been well-received among critics and audiences, recent quotes and social media posts from cast members imply a bleak future for the show. While Fox has not said for certain whether the show will be renewed for a sixth season, there have been several rumors that the show will be canceled after season 5. The fact that the spinoff could end is already bad enough, but the fact that one potential way for the series to receive a satisfying sendoff is seemingly off-limits makes the news doubly disappointing.
9-1-1: Lone Star’s Possible Ending Misses The Chance For A Final 9-1-1 Crossover
With the rumors that 9-1-1: Lone Star is ending soon, the show would benefit from a potential crossover with the main flagship 9-1-1 series. Such a project could provide a neat symmetry to the narrative and help mitigate any disappointment over unfulfilled story potential. Unfortunately, as the Economic Times has reported, the shows have no plans for a crossover any time soon. While a crossover featuring the Texan characters in LA would be an exciting thing to see, it seems unlikely since 9-1-1: Lone Star is a Fox production and 9-1-1 is ABC’s.
What makes the apparent incompatibility of a crossover more frustrating is that there has been a crossover between the two shows before. Season 2, episode 3 of 9-1-1: Lone Star, “Hold The Line,” incorporates elements of both 9-1-1: Lone Star and 9-1-1. With season 5 possibly being the last season of 9-1-1: Lone Star, the crossover episode in season 2 might be the only collaboration between the two shows unless there’s one more combined episode in the upcoming season. However, given the proximity to the last crossover event, since it was only three seasons ago, it is unlikely that there will be another one so soon.
What Needs To Happen In 9-1-1: Lone Star Before It Ends
The potential last season of the show should also find a well-fitting replacement for Jim Parrack’s Judd Ryder.
