9-1-1: Lone Star boss teases Tarlos’ journey in the fifth and final season

The showrunner for 9-1-1: Lone Star has spilt some major tea about Tarlos’ journey in the final season.

Earlier this month, it was heartbreakingly revealed that the first responder drama will come to an end with its upcoming fifth season.

According to Deadline, the cast were made aware earlier this year that Lone Star could come to an end with season five “following two unsuccessful attempts at contract renegotiations”.

The news immediately had fans in mourning, particularly shippers of Ronen Rubinstein and Rafael Silva’s respective power couple Tyler Kennedy “T.K.” Strand and Carlos Reyes.

While the fan-favourite couple will no longer be on our screens after the conclusion of 9-1-1: Lone Star season five, their final run in the series will be jam-packed with angsty moments.

In a recent interview with TV Insider, co-showrunner Rashad Raisani opened up about Tarlos’ upcoming journey and how their marriage will be tested in the new batch of episodes.

“A big part for me about their marriage was I really wanted to treat it like a real marriage, and by that, I mean that even though these guys are so wonderful to each other and they’re so handsome, life isn’t perfect, no matter who you are and everybody has real struggles that affect even great relationships,” he explained.

Raisani went on to tease that the murder of Carlos’ father, Gabriel, will play a role in their relationship, adding that it will “take up a lot of oxygen in the room.”

“And T.K., who is an incredibly supportive husband, is gonna try and be patient and graceful and allow Carlos to have that space,” he continued. “But at a certain point, he’s going to advocate for them and their future together.”

Elsewhere in his interview, Raisani revealed that the subject of kids would be another challenging plot point for the lovebirds.

In season four, Carlos and T.K. clashed over starting a family. In the end, the duo decided to put a pin in the conversation.

However, in the new episodes, T.K. with Carlos will find themselves at a similar crossroads, with the latter struggling to have the “bandwidth” to discuss the idea due to his father’s death.

“T.K. is feeling like life is happening right now, like we don’t get moments back, and especially as a first responder, they see that you can’t take anything for granted,” he told the news outlet.

“And circumstances are going to align that are going to [lead to] a situation where T.K. is like, I know that you were uncomfortable with taking this next step as a father, but I feel like its something powerful that I need to do, and to make that a crisis point for them as well.”
