Season 1 of Yellowjackets—Showtime’s critically acclaimed psychological survival thriller—is coming to Netflix this week.
Yellowjackets Season 1 debuted on the Showtime cable network in 2021. Consisting of 10 episodes, Season 1 begins to tell the harrowing tale of the members of a New Jersey high school girls’ soccer team named the Yellowjackets after their private plane crashes in the Canadian wilderness while on the way to a national tournament.
While stranded in the wild, the girls eventually must resort to cannibalism to survive.
Yellowjackets tells the story of the surviving team members of the plane crash in scenes from the past and present. Part of the series chronicles the events from the time the plane crashed in the Canadian wilderness in 1996 and the unspeakable events in the 19 months that followed. It also shows various survivors as adults in 2021 as they try to cope with their past trauma and keep their dark secret between themselves.
According to Netflix, Yellowjackets Season 1 will debut on the streaming service on Tuesday.
A second season of Yellowjackets debuted on Showtime in 2023 and the series’ third season is currently in production.
Who Stars In ‘Yellowjackets’?
Yellowjackets features a huge ensemble of many notable actors including Ella Purnell as the soccer team’s star, Jackie. Purnell starred in the 2021 Netflix original movie Army of the Dead and most recently as the vault dweller Lucy in Prime Video’s hit 2024 series Fallout.
Several stars also share their roles. Melanie Lynskey stars as the adult version of Shauna while Sophie Nélisse plays the high school version of the character, while Tawny Cypress plays the adult version of Taissa while Jasmin Savoy Brown plays the teen version.
Yellowjackets also stars Juliette Lewis and Sophie Thatcher as the adult and teenage versions of Natalie, and Christina Ricci and Samantha Hanratty play the adult and teen versions of Misty.
Yellowjackets Season 1 scored a 100% “fresh” rating from Rotten Tomatoes critics. The RT Critics Consensus for the series’ first season reads, “A genre mashup that blends smoothly, Yellowjackets presents an absorbing mystery with plenty of sting.”
Per the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Yellowjackets earned seven Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Season 1, including nods for Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for Lynskey and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for Ricci.
Also starring Simone Kessell, Courtney Eaton, Lauren Ambrose and Liv Hewson, Yellowjackets Season 1 debuts on Netflix on Tuesday.
