Blue Bloods star ‘still hanging on to hope’ for season 15 after CBS cancellation
EXCLUSIVE: Blue Bloods star Abigail Hawk has opened up about the show’s cancellation, admitting that she is ‘still hanging on to hope’ that the CBS drama will be renewed for a 15th season.
Abigail Hawk, star of Blue Bloods, has confessed she still harbours hope that CBS will reconsider its decision to axe the long-standing police drama.
The popular series, which has been on air for 14 seasons, follows the crime-solving Reagan family, led by Commissioner Frank Reagan (played by Tom Selleck), in New York.
Fans adore Hawk for her portrayal of Frank’s steadfast primary aide, Detective Abigail Baker, throughout the show’s successful run.
Unfortunately, it was announced in November 2023 that the ongoing 14th season would be the last for Blue Bloods, signalling the end of Abigail’s story along with the Reagans’.
In a conversation with Screen Time, Hawk expressed her continued optimism about the show’s potential future. “Of course, we are sad, but you never know,” she commented.
“I mean, yes the set is gone, but with the professionals we have in our industry it would take two seconds to rebuild a set like that if it came to that.”
She added: “So there’s still a little teeny bit of a silver needle somewhere in the hope haystack and I’ll hang on to it.”
After concluding production this summer, the sets used on Blue Bloods have now been completely demolished, seemingly ending the Reagans’ journey. However, defiant remarks from Selleck and the show’s fans earlier this year indicate there is still a strong demand for more seasons, despite CBS executives officially pulling the plug.
Hawk passionately remarked, “I think the resolve is there. We know that it’s done, but, like Tom Selleck’s memoir, his memoir’s titled You Never Know. And I think that hope can move mountains.”
She also feels a sense of loss regarding the show’s current status: “There’s a void left by our show. And I think that, in time, the higher-ups will come to regret it.”
Emphasising the dedication of the ensemble cast, which includes notables like Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, and Will Estes, Hawk is certain about their eagerness to return: “I would say that every single one of us as far as the cast is concerned, we are all ready and willing and able to work, to continue.”
However, Hawk acknowledges the ultimate decision isn’t within their control: “But it’s out of our hands at this point. We have clearly seen that. So, just know that this was not something that people were going, ‘Okay, well I’m ready to hang up my hat and move on’.”
Hawk reflects on the ample potential for storytelling within the series: “No. There are so many stories that are left to tell. Because that’s the beauty of these characters. Life just continues.”
While Hawk is keen on what lies ahead in her career, she can’t help but feel a heavy heart when it comes to moving on from the series: “I’m excited for what’s next, but, of course, there’s a huge piece of me that’s just sad.”
Fans are left wondering, will Blue Bloods make a triumphant return for an unexpected 15th season, or might there be a spin-off in the works? Currently, only the future holds the answer.
