Showtime has dropped a new teaser for Yellowjackets season 3, which not only confirms the official release date, but also gives more hope about Ella Purnell returning to the series as Jackie. It’s been nearly two years since Yellowjackets season 2 ended, with plenty of mysteries about the wilderness in the past and the survivors in the present still requiring explanations. In a new teaser from Showtime that confirms Yellowjackets’ season 3 premiere date as February 14, 2025, short clips of the teens in the wilderness are interspersed with imagery of a skull, the symbol, and Jackie’s heart necklace.
Though Jackie died in Yellowjackets’ season 1 finale when she froze to death outside during the teens’ first winter in the wilderness, her character has continued to have a major impact on the narratives in both the past and present timelines. As she was the first dead character the teens cannibalized, Jackie’s death and the guilt surrounding it have led to her spirit and memory haunting Yellowjackets’ overall story. Whether it be through visions or flashbacks, Jackie has already posthumously returned in both timelines, and Yellowjackets season 3’s teaser hints Ella Purnell will continue these haunting appearances.
Yellowjackets Season 3’s Teaser Puts A Major Focus On Jackie’s Heart Necklace
The latest teaser for Yellowjackets season 3 doesn’t give away much about the upcoming story, but it does put a notable focus on Teen Shauna, a skull, the symbol, and Jackie’s heart necklace. These elements are all connected, with Teen Shauna having drawn blood, eaten some of her fellow survivors, become entranced by the symbol’s mysterious powers and influence, and received Jackie’s heart necklace as a gift from her departed friend. Yellowjackets’ mysterious symbol has continued to be a major icon throughout the show, but season 3 seems to be elevating the significance of Jackie’s necklace.
The pilot episode already gave a deeper meaning to Jackie’s heart necklace, as it was worn by Yellowjackets’ “pit girl” who was killed and cannibalized by the teens in a flash-forward. It was soon revealed that the necklace originally belonged to Jackie, but she had given it to Shauna as a “good luck charm” when they were flying on the plane that crashed. This led to early speculation that Jackie would become the pit girl, but her death in Yellowjackets season 1 debunked that theory. During the inaugural deck of cards ritual in Yellowjackets season 2, episode 8, Natalie is chosen to be sacrificed when she draws the Queen of Hearts. Shauna then gives Natalie the heart necklace as a “good luck charm” before Natalie runs, just like when Jackie gave it to her. Since it was on the pit girl and was given to Natalie after drawing the Queen of Hearts, it seems the necklace will be given to each sacrificial victim as a symbol of good luck in Yellowjackets season 3 to honor Jackie, which its emphasized presence in the teaser supports.
Ella Purnell Could Return As Jackie To Reveal The Heart Necklace’s Origins In Flashbacks
With the necklace seemingly becoming an important symbol in the wilderness sacrifices, the object’s deeper connection to Jackie makes it likely that the character will return in season 3. Yellowj ackets has already seen Jackie return through flashbacks to explain certain objects related to her history with Shauna, such as the revelations from her journal. Now that Jackie’s heart necklace is being corrupted into a symbol for a cannibalistic murder ritual, it’s a fitting time to include a flashback that explains who originally gave Jackie the necklace and what it meant to her before her death.

Though leading roles in Sweetpea, Arcane, and Fallout have made Ella Purnell busier than ever, it’s still possible for the actress to repeat her season 2 return by having brief hallucination-based cameos in Yellowjackets season 3. Shauna’s guilt over Jackie’s death and her cannibalism continue to haunt her in the past and present timelines, so she’ll likely continue to have visions of Jackie as she integrates her friend’s necklace into the rituals.
When Teen Shauna begins to see more victims wearing Jackie’s old necklace, her guilt may cause her to see visions of Jackie being the one running through the wilderness wearing the accessory again. Additionally, it’s unclear who has Jackie’s necklace during the present-day timeline, so Adult Shauna could also have visions of teen Jackie speaking to her if she happens to find the object. Whichever timeline she may appear, Jackie’s memory is being advertised as a major aspect of Yellowjackets season 3’s more “feral” story, which makes Ella Purnell’s potential return all the more important.
