Sam Heughan’s three-word Outlander season 7 description promises fans time travelling ‘tie ups’

The Scots actor also admitted it was emotional on the set of season seven with the cast knowing they were just one series away from wrapping up for good

Sam Heughan has told Outlander fans they should prepare for an ‘extra large’ experience when season seven hits screens next month. The Scots hunk will return as Highland warrior Jamie Fraser in the penultimate series of the time-travelling drama.

Asked to sum up the season in three words, Heughan said: “It’s XL, it’s extended, it’s massive”. And he wasn’t done there when he also said the season could be described as a “homecoming” or “the return” with a number of well-known faces would be on their way back.

Outlander season seven will be available on Starz from June 16. Speaking to the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Heughan said the new series would have plenty of “water cooler moments” that fans would be chewing over and confirmed some of the mysteries fans have discussed will be explained. He added: “Definitely, a lot of big stuff happens.

“There’s new characters coming in. And there’s obviously a lot of people know that there’s returning characters.

“Some of the storylines tie up quite nicely, time travel stuff as well. So we’re getting there. And I can’t wait to be able to tell the end of the story. I wanted to finish it, I didn’t want to just walk away.”

It was announced earlier this year that season eight of Outlander would be the final one with fans eager to see how the epic love story of Jamie and Claire Fraser (played by Caitriona Balfe) ends. And even though there is still a series to be filmed, he admitted the atmosphere on season seven was “emotional”.

He told host Josh Horowitz: “We didn’t know where we were going to be with it. And we finally came to that decision, that agreement and we obviously have one more to shoot.

“But yeah, at the end of this season seven, suddenly you could feel it on set. Everyone was starting to go ‘oh, actually, we’re gonna come back and do this one more time and that’s it’ and it’s everyone was getting pretty emotional about it. I think it’s gonna be a huge change in our lives and also really sad to say goodbye.”

Heughan was also asked how the love story at the centre of Outlander stands up to other classic tales from screen history. Asked to compare it to Jack and Rose it to Titanic, he joked: “Come on…there was blatantly room on the door.”
