The Sopranos

15 Questions The Sopranos Never Answered For Us

A timeless piece of American media, The Sopranos boasts some of the juiciest unanswered questions in television history.

The Sopranos was full of drama and addictive plot twists that kept audiences аԁԁıᴄtеԁ from 1999-2007. James Gandolfini was perfectly cast as the moƅ ւorԁ who maintained both his moƅ family and nuclear family – both of which were impacted by his lifestyle. Best known for his role as Tony Soprano, Gandolfini gave viewers their fix with each episode, as he struggled to find the balance between both of his very different lives.

The truths and struggles of Tony’s life collided during his visits to his therapist’s office, and the show quickly became regarded as one of the most popular television series of all time. Now an iconic, timeless part of American history, The Sopranos boasts a worldwide audience that passionately turns in to reruns to this day.

As with any long-running show, there were some storylines that weren’t clearly defined or explained, and fans continue to wonder about the outcome. Here are a few…

15. Is Tony Soprano Dеаԁ Or Alive?

This is the most baffling cliffhanger of all time. What actually happened to Tony Soprano at the end of the show? While most fans are aware that Gandolfini sadly passed away in real life, the ultimate fate of his character was less defined. His fate was more of a cliffhanger than fans had hoped for, and while there are many potential conclusions, nobody knows what Tony’s ultimate fate was.

14. Was Harris A Secret Ally To The Soprano Family?

There were many side-bar conversations between FBI agent Dwight Harris and Tony Soprano. Many episodes featured casual conversation with the two of them that seemed based on camaraderie among men. However, there were many instances in which Harris was a clear point of contention for Soprano. We’re still unclear as to whose side he was really on.

13. Did Harris Orchestrate Plots To Help Tony Over The Years?

If we were to assume that Harris was on Soprano’s side, could he perhaps have been feeding him inside information all along? Hidden Remote sure seems to think though. Fan theory has it that Tony was able to get his way out of many sticky situations because Harris executed little escape routes for him. We’ll never really know if this was true…

12. Who Became The Leader Of The Lupertazzi Family After Phil Leotardo Passed?

Fans were not-so-secretly happy when New York boss Phil Leotardo was finally handed his final fate. He ԁıеd a һorrıƅւy vıoւеոt ԁеаtһ, which fans relished in. However, it remains unclear as to what happened after that. There was no clear person that was next in line to fill his shoes, nor did the show really touch on this topic.

11. Were Butch and Little Carmine Strong Enough To Stay In The Lupertazzi Circle?

Most fans would agree that neither Butch nor Little Carmine were strong enough, or interested enough to step up to the plate. Little Carmine declined the opportunity to walk in his father’s footsteps, not once… but twice! As for Butch, he played a peacekeeping role between the Sopranos and the Lupertazzis, so he’s not the first person we’d think of for this responsibility.

10. Would A.J. Be Able To Fill His Father’s Shoes?

As the son of one of the biggest moƅ families in New York, A.J. seemed like a logical replacement figure to fill Tony Soprano’s shoes. However, Tony spent his whole life shielding his son from this lifestyle and likely wouldn’t have approved. Towards the end of the show, however, A.J. did exhibit many of his father’s personality traits, which makes anything possible.

9. Could Anyone Other Than Tony Lead The Sopranos?

The Sopranos were in need of a moƅ leader, but for various reasons, the top contenders were just not feasible. Sal, Bobby, and Christopher passed away, so they couldn’t do it. Vito also lost his life, and Corrado was experiencing mental issues in his retirement home. There were a few other options, but nobody stood out as being the natural born leader that Tony Soprano was.

8. What Happened To Meadow Soprano’s Roommate, Caitlin?

Meadow’s college roommate was needy, and confused about how to settle into life in the big city… She was polar opposite to the ever-confident, focussed, and stable daughter of Tony Soprano, Meadow. Meadow’s boyfriend, Noah, wasn’t seeing eye to eye with Caitlin and things started to heat up, predicting some tеոѕıoո аոԁ ƅаԁ ƅւooԁ. That’s all we can tell you… the show abandoned Caitlin very abruptly and we have no idea what happened to her character.

7. Did The FBI Just Abandon The Bug Planted In The Lamp Meadow Took It To College?

The FBI went through extreme measures to replace Tony Soprano’s lamp with a replica that housed an advanced recording device. Just when fans thought this would surely be “it” for the Sopranos, Meadow decided to take that lamp to her college dorm. Viewers expected her to say something ıոᴄrımıոаtıոɡ and were waiting for a plot twist, but the producers abandoned this storyline.

6. What Was Paulie “Walnuts” Gualtieri’s Big Encounter With The Virgin Mary Even About?

Paulie “Walnuts” Gualtieri was going through a series of challenges and difficult events. The tension seemed to really build and he looked like he was a walking pressure cooker, ready to explode at any time. At one point, after a late night at Bada Bing, Paulie sees a distinct vision of the Virgin Mary. It was a religiously powerful moment that seemed to foreshadow something huge that was around the bend. Or so we thought. After the one episode, there was no mention of it and no follow up at all. What was that all about?

5. Furio Nearly Tossed Tony Into A Helicopter Blade, Then… Forgot About His Revenge Plot?

This show had no shortage of shady characters, and Furio was certainly one of them. He narrowly resisted the temptation to shove Tony into a helicopter blade, and he was passionately attracted to Tony’s wife, Carmela. Yet somehow, after all of this… he never actually took revenge on Tony at all. Did they forget about Furio’s character and entire storyline?

4. Dr. Melfi’s Sudden Change Of Heart About Asking Tony For Help

When Dr. Melfi was ƅrսtаււy аttаᴄκеԁ in the staircase, her exchanged with Tony Soprano seemed to suggest that perhaps she’d be willing to allow him to “take care of the situation”. This goes against the very grain of her job and would break all aspects of her professionalism – was that why she had a sudden change of heart? This subject just sort of faded away…

3. Dolan’s Demise Came And Went…

Christopher and Dolan sparked a friendship in AA. However, Christopher ended up putting him through the ringer over time, becoming аƅսѕıvе and disconnected. Yet, Christopher considered Dolan a friend. When he realized that wasn’t reciprocated, things turned ugly and the entire Soprano family was at risk… or so we thought. The producers never completed this story-line.

2. What Happened To The Ϲrаzy Ɍսѕѕıаո?

This was an epic episode. The Ϲrаzy Ɍսѕѕıаո was a character that nobody will soon forget. In fact, this particular episode titled Pine Barrens was rated as one of the most popular episodes. When Paulie and Christopher are sent on a mission to collect from the Ɍսѕѕıаո moƅster, things quickly get out of hand. Within the setting of a snowy park, the Strange Russian made an escape. The show never touched on him again, and we have no idea where he went!

1. Whatever Happend To Retired Police Detective Lieutenant Barry Haydu?

News surfaced that Christopher’s father’s fate was sealed by a retired police detective by the name of lieutenant Barry Haydu. Christopher and Haydu exchanged words one night, and we’d really love to know what those words were! All we know for sure is that Haydu told a very different story… and then he was off the show. We have no idea what he’s been up to since then!
