Why Lucy & Tim Still Didn’t Get Back Together After That Romantic Confession In The Rookie Season 7, Episode 8

Even after everything in The Rookie season 7, episode 8, Tim and Lucy remain broken up. Since the beginning of the ABC series, many have been anxiously waiting for Tim and Lucy to start dating. The development of their slow-burn romance was one of the best parts of the show, making the long wait worth it once they finally admitted their feelings for one another in season 5. Unfortunately, Tim and Lucy’s bliss didn’t last long as he left her in season 6. Nevertheless, it’s only a matter of time before Tim and Lucy get back together in The Rookie season 7.
When Tim broke up with Lucy, he believed he wasn’t good enough to be with her. However, after their split, Tim has been attending therapy in The Rookie season 7 and working on bettering himself. These kind of changes don’t happen overnight, though. As a result, it might still be a while before Tim and Lucy rekindle their romance in the ABC show (despite the events of “Wildfire”).
Tim Confesses He’s Still In Love With Lucy In The Rookie Season 7, Episode 8
Although they are broken up, Tim and Lucy share an iconic moment in The Rookie season 7, episode 8. They get trapped between two wildfires, and rescue can’t get to them fast enough. So, Tim and Lucy grab a foil fire blanket from the squad car, lay on the ground, tuck themselves under the blanket, and brace for the flames. As most fictional characters do while on the brink of death, Tim then makes a heartfelt confession. He tells Lucy he’s still in love with her (which shocks no one, including Lucy).
Of course, the memorable moment between Tim and Lucy in The Rookie season 7, episode 8 isn’t like most love declarations in TV shows and movies. The writers make sure that the scene remains true to the characters, resulting in one of the best, most Chenford-coded moments in The Rookie’s history.
A love confession underneath a foil fire blanket won’t magically solve [Tim and Lucy’s] issues.
Tim says that he has to tell Lucy something. She tells him not to, though, because she already knows what he’s going to say — he’s in love with her. Tim asks if she feels the same way, but Lucy claims it doesn’t matter, to which he responds, “So that’s a yes.” The dialogue is chaotic, rushed, desperate, sarcastic, and everything one would expect from a Chenford scene, which is why it’s one of their best.
Lucy & Tim Remain Broke Up In The Rookie (& That’s For The Better)
Despite Tim’s love confession, The Rookie season 7, episode 8 ends without him and Lucy back together. They eventually get rescued and are rushed to the hospital. There, Lucy reveals that she is contemplating taking the sergeant’s exam. Tim notes that if she were to become a sergeant, he would no longer be her superior (making it easier for them to date). They share knowing smiles, but other than that, no progress is made on the Chenford reunion front.
The Rookie season 7 taking its time with Tim and Lucy may be frustrating for some. However, it’s a good thing the writers aren’t rushing to reunite the couple. Instead, they are dragging it out, just like they did during the show’s first five seasons. If Tim and Lucy are going to get back together, they need to do it right by fixing the problems that led to their breakup. Tim needs to continue working on himself, and Lucy needs to learn how to trust Tim again. A love confession underneath a foil fire blanket won’t magically solve these issues.
When Should Tim & Lucy Get Back Together In The Rookie
A monumental moment like Tim and Lucy getting back together must be earned, but it should also happen during a significant episode (like a finale). Although the two Rookie season 7 characters now know they still love one another, they won’t reunite right away. Lucy will probably take the sergeant’s exam first, and Tim will continue going to therapy. If I were to guess, I would say that Tim and Lucy will (and should) get back together in the season 7 finale. That gives them enough time to grow and be ready to rekindle their iconic romance in The Rookie.
