The Rings of Power Star Cynthia Addai-Robinson Reveals ‘Number 1 Question’ Fans Keep Asking Her About Season 3

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3 premiere, inspired by the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, was recently confirmed, and it will feature a major time jump. However, one question that is on the mind of some fans involves Cynthia Addai-Robinson’s Queen Regent Míriel.

Speaking to CBR’s Grae Drake at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival, Addai-Robinson touched on her Rings of Power character and revealed the one question she hasn’t been able to escape. “I cannot talk about much,” the actor said of the upcoming third seasonThat’s always the biggest challenge. The question I’ve been asked from friends and family, I would say the number one question, do I get my vision back?”

The Queen Regent Míriel lost her eyesight in the first season of the series when the ruler of Númenor led her soldiers into a crumbling building to rescue those who became trapped. As the roof collapsed, embers from it floated onto her face, blinding her, before the roof crumbled. “I don’t know. I don’t know the answer. I don’t know much,” Addai-Robinson addressing whether Míriel will regain her sight.

I know we are going back to start Season 3 this year, and that’s mostly what I know.” Addai-Robinson also revealed that the scripts for Season 3 are kept under wraps. “I feel like audiences are so savvy, right? I mean, now, it’s like, even if you have a whiff of something, it’s hard to rein it in once it’s out there. So, I understand the levels of secrecy around things,” she explained.

The second season ended in October 2024. It was previously reported that the time jump would pick up with Sauron creating the One Ring. “Jumping forward several years from the events of Season 2, Season 3 takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war and conquer all Middle-earth at last,” the official Season 3 logline reads.

Rings of Power Showrunners On Series Criticism

In a previous interview with CBR, series showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay said that criticism is hard to avoid as it’s hard to please everyone. “It’s challenging, the game of engaging audience feedback, in terms of a creative sort of driver,” Payne said. “Because for every person who says they love something, another person will say they hated it and vice versa. You have very loud contingents of fandom in all kinds of different corners of the map.”

“So those things can be useful to listen to, to hear what people are responding to, and see if there’s places that everyone seems to love. But you can’t chase it. You have to really go back to Tolkien. You say, ‘What is it that makes Tolkien work? What are these core story elements and thematics that we want to build into the DNA of the show?'” Payne continued. McKay shared the sentiment, saying, “We’re our own harshest critics. We want a show that’s getting better every episode, every season.”
