‘Yellowjackets’ Truly Deserves a Fourth Season, and Here Are 7 Reasons Why

It would be an understatement to say that the way that the adult timeline was handled this season was a major disappointment, and there has naturally been some backlash surrounding these two deaths. Because of this, there is a significant chance that the show might not get renewed. That being said, in spite of the poor handling of the adult timeline this season, Yellowjackets deserves a fourth season, and here are 7 reasons why.
7. ‘Yellowjackets’ Needs the Chance to Fix the Adult Timeline
It can’t end like this!
The main issue with this season of Yellowjackets is that the show just didn’t seem to know how to handle the adult timeline after killing off Nat (Juliette Lewis). The storyline with Lottie’s compound in Season 2 was the most interesting one in the adult timeline so far, primarily because it brought the Yellowjackets back together. Now that Lottie’s murder mystery is resolved, the show seems to be getting ready to pit Tai (Tawny Cypress) and Misty (Christina Ricci) against Shauna (Melanie Lynskey).
6. We Still Don’t Know Who Burned Down the Cabin
This mystery remains unsolved.
One of the overarching mysteries in Season 3 of Yellowjackets is the question of who burned down the cabin in the Season 2 finale. There are a number of possibilities for who could have done it, with the most obvious being Other Tai (Jasmin Savoy Brown), without Tai knowing. This mystery is quite literally what led to Ben’s death this season, as he was put on trial for the cabin fire, found guilty, and permanently left unable to walk.
We need to find out who burned the cabin down, because it is such an important part of this season, and a driving factor of multiple of the past storylines. Yellowjackets could do something fascinating by letting this get revealed right before the Yellowjackets get rescued, and having things really get shaken up, especially if Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) decides that she needs to punish whoever is responsible.
5. Shauna’s Return to the Wilderness Is Very Compelling
What will happen now that Shauna has embraced the wilderness?
Shauna’s arc has been the most developed of the adult timeline in Yellowjackets, as her perfectly normal life has slowly been unraveling since she murdered Adam (Peter Gadiot). In Season 3 of Yellowjackets, Shauna works to save her marriage with Jeff (Warren Kole) and to keep Callie away from Lottie, all while becoming more and more paranoid that someone is out to kill her. This naturally hits a boiling point when she finds the tape and learns that Melissa is alive.
After biting Melissa, realizing that Jeff and Callie have left her, and reading Melissa’s letter, Shauna decides to embrace the wilderness once again. The adult timeline of Yellowjackets is strongest when it brings the women back towards the people they were in the wilderness, like viewers got to see at Lottie’s compound in the Season 2 finale. This storyline could save the adult timeline, with Shauna fully embracing her old self, while Tai and Misty try to take her down once and for all.
4. ‘Yellowjackets’ Just Made a Bold Choice About the Wilderness
Something supernatural is going on.
Now, it’s possible that Travis was high at the time or that the two both imagined this, but it seems like this really happened. It is an excellent twist that some aspects of the wilderness’ power is real, even if parts of it have been invented by the Yellowjackets. This concrete proof related to the wilderness can make for some fascinating storylines, like how it might play a role in the Yellowjackets’ final days in the wilderness, especially as they try to leave. It will also be exciting to see if and how this resurfaces in the present timeline.
3. We Need an Explanation for the Plane Scenes
How connected is the wilderness to the afterlife?
The dead Yellowjackets still play a role in the present timeline, most notable when Shauna sees visions of Jackie (Ella Purnell), and when she dreams about her. This has all previously seemed to be all in Shauna’s head, but with moments like Lottie foreshadowing her own death and Van’s teen self hinting at more to come on the plane, Yellowjackets has room to explore this connection to the afterlife in a potential Season 4.
2. We Need to See How the Rest of Those Deaths in the Wilderness Play Out
Is Akilah still alive?

In the present timeline, Shauna mentioned that the Yellowjackets killed and ate Hannah (Ashley Sutton) when they were still in the wilderness. As of the end of Season 3, Nat (Sophie Thatcher) has made contact with someone through the satellite phone, and rescue is just in reach. Hannah is still alive, though, and has just deceived Shauna by pretending to be Nat.
We need to see what happens next, and what leads to Hannah getting killed before the Yellowjackets are rescued. There is still ambiguity about whether Alikah (Nia Sondaya) is alive in the present day, and whether Gen (Vanessa Prasad) died in the wilderness or after the Yellowjackets were rescued. We need to see how this all plays out, and to get some answers to these questions before the show ends.
1. ‘Yellowjackets’ Latest Twist Is Three Seasons In the Making
The Yellowjackets are so close to being rescued.
The past timeline of Yellowjackets is dependent on the fact that the girls remain in the wilderness, so it is a bold change to have Nat make contact with the outside world in the last scene of the Season 3 finale. It is also an excellent decision that feels like Yellowjackets is setting up for one more season that wraps up both timelines and shows the final moments leading up to the Yellowjackets being rescued. It would be so infuriating if Yellowjackets were to be cancelled right now, after such an interesting cliffhanger.
The entirety of Yellowjackets has been building up to the moment where the Yellowjackets finally get rescued, and we need to see this play out before the show is over. There are also questions of what will happen in the meantime before they get rescued, particularly with Shauna out for blood, livid with Nat, and determined to keep everyone in the wilderness. With this wild twist, Yellowjackets needs another season to properly depict what happens next.
