Rings Of Power Director Already Knows LOTR Series Ending Despite Only 1 Season Out

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power director J.A. Bayona already knows how the series ends despite only season 1 having been released.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power director J.A. Bayona says he already knows how the entire series ends despite only season 1 being released. Based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power details the forging of the Rings of Power and the rise of Sauron in the Second Age. Production on season 2 of the expensive Prime Video series is already underway in the UK.

Speaking with Comicbook.com, Bayona revealed he already knows how The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will end. He disclosed that he knows where the story is going and is excited to see all the planned events unfold. Check out what Bayona had to say below:

“I’m very excited with that story. I know the ending. I know where everything is heading to, and I’m super excited to see the whole thing, not only one story, in the whole story.”

Will Rings Of Power’s Ending Stay The Same?

When Amazon first began production on The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, the series was planned to have a story that lasts through season 5. Since The Rings of Power season 2 is in production, there’s a good chance the series is still on the path it laid the groundwork for in season 1. This will no doubt include the aftermath of Halbrand revealing he’s Sauron and the Balrog that awoke beneath the mines of Khazad-dûm.

However, with so much time left between now and when The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power prepares for season 5, it’s possible the planned ending of the series could change. With the ongoing Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike, the show could be impacted and forced down a different path. This includes a reduced number of seasons, which may force the story to wrap up quicker than anticipated. Other unforeseeable events may include some ensemble cast members leaving to pursue different projects in the future, which could affect the story’s trajectory.

Given The Rings of Power’s massive budget that made it the most expensive TV show of all time, Amazon will likely continue investing in the series until it reaches its planned ending. While the writers’ strike or actors leaving could impact its future, the show doesn’t seem like it will have a different ending than what’s planned. While it’s possible The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power could have its season 5 ending plan changed, for now, the show seems on track to keep its original storyline plan.
