‘Doctor Who’s Millie Gibson Teases Ruby Sunday’s Strange Connection to David Tennant in the Upcoming Episode

With fans still catching their breath three days on, attention is now slowly turning to the upcoming fourth episode of the season, “Lucky Day,” which excitingly sees the return of last year’s TARDIS companion, Millie Gibson‘s Ruby Sunday. Now, in an interview with Radio Times, the former companion has teased what to expect from the episode, specifically when it comes to wardrobe, and how her upcoming appearance is set to have an interesting link to one of the show’s best-loved alumni, David Tennant. “She’s kind of packed away the tweed vibes, I’d say,” Gibson began, adding, “My favourite outfit is towards the end of the episode, I genuinely thought they dressed me like David Tennant!” She continued:
“I had a pinstripe waistcoat and pinstripe pants and then a white shirt, I was literally just like David Tennant. Pam Downe, our costume designer, has a really subtle way of illustrating that these are what these characters would wear when they get older. The colour scheme is a lot of plums, a lot of dark greens and a lot of dark blues, it’s just more mature colours.”
Ruby Sunday Has a New Boyfriend in “Lucky Day”
Ruby Sunday’s hunt for her mother marked much of Season 1’s journey, with The Doctor eventually putting together the pieces of the puzzle and helping Ruby reunite with her birth mother in one of the finale’s most touching scenes. This, besides a brief cameo in the recent Christmas special, saw Ruby call an end to her time on the TARDIS, with new companion Belinda, played by the talented Varada Sethu, taking her place. However, fans were happy to hear that Gibson’s Ruby would return in Season 2, although few expected her to have matured to this extent, with the character officially in a relationship with new boyfriend Conrad. Played by Jonah Hauer-King (The Tattooist of Auschwitz), Conrad’s role in the episode is as yet unknown, but, knowing the ever-twisting nature of Davies’ writing of the show, there’s an equal chance he is either a humble, doting boyfriend or a devious alien in a human skin suit, à la early revival foes the Slitheen. There’s only one way to find out, and that’s by tuning in this Saturday on Disney+.
