The Rings Of Power

The Rings of Power Gets a Big Win From Amazon Following The Wheel of Time’s Cancelation

Amazon Prime’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is one of the most expensive shows ever produced, and per Variety, the J.R.R. Tolkien-inspired series could be making its way to syndication. Amazon MGM Studios Distribution, headed by Chris Ottinger, has begun to make The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power available to third parties for syndication. The news comes as Amazon pulled the plug on its other big-budget fantasy series, The Wheel of Time.

In addition to The Rings of Power, Amazon is also making shows like Citadel available to third parties. The upcoming series Butterfly and Countdown, starring Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles, will also get a chance at syndication. Countdown and Butterfly will be available 18 months after their season concludes. Countdown is set to premiere on Prime in June, and Butterfly later this summer.

The Studio Expects “Top Dollar”

Ottinger said he expects that The Rings of Power could fetch a pretty price on the market. “We want premium pricing because it’s a premium product. Season 1 of The Rings of Power was the biggest TV series premiere in the history of Prime Video, and Season 1 was the most-watched returning season ever on Prime Video at the time. Ultimately, it depends on the partner and where they plan to place it,” Ottinger said. “If someone wants it for Thursday at 8 p.m. – a prime slot – I expect top dollar,” he said.

Ahead of Season 3, Celebrimbor Actor Recalls Season 2 Finale

The Rings of Power concluded its second season in October 2024 and was renewed for a third season. As for what’s coming in Season 3, per The Hollywood Reporter, the new season will feature a huge time jump that will focus on the first great conflict in Middle-earth.

As fans will recall, Season 2 ended brutally for Celebrimbor, played by actor Charles Edwards. In a previous interview with Deadline, Edwards talked about the end of his character in the series.

“The storyline this season was tough, but we got through it by having a great sense of fun on set,” said Edwards, who played the great Elven smith. “When we weren’t working – and when we were working too – there was a really friendly, happy atmosphere. It was felt by not only us, but everyone who was working on that storyline. It was just Charlie (Vickers) and I in that story,” Edwards said of the scene in which Sauron (Vickers) brutally kills Celebrimbor. “It did feel like a bubble from the rest of the show in a way. So, everyone was focused on it for the months that we were in shooting, and the mood off set really sustained and informed what we were doing in front of the camera,” Edwards added.
