“Literally Anything Could Happen”: ‘The Rings of Power’ Cast Teases Season 3

The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power Season 3 is poised to be the biggest season of Prime Video’s fantasy series. After a tremendous second season that featured massive revelations and epic scenes, the third season will be something to behold. Series stars David Weyman and Charlie Vickers can’t wait for fans to see what the team is working on. Season 2 finally revealed the identity of The Stranger, and with that out in the open, “I’m excited for this plethora of possible pitfalls, errors and failings that young Gandalf can learn from,” Weyman told Deadline. Based on what viewers know about Gandalf from the movies, Weyman anticipates that the wise man will have some learning to do before becoming the character Sir Ian McKellen portrayed in the films. “Literally anything could happen because the only way we’re going to see a wise being later on is if he does some pretty horrendous accidental things and puts his foot in the wrong places and has to pick it up and learn again,” the actor teased.

Meanwhile, Sauron racked up massive wins in the second season. Going into Season 3, he has a singular purpose, and nothing will distract him from it. Success is so close he can almost taste it. “I’m incredibly lucky that Sauron in this time period is very specific to what he does,” Vickers said, adding, “We get to go through so many exciting beats that I think fans will be really excited to see.” Like Weyman, Vickers is also excited about the journey his character embarks on in Season 3 in his quest to consolidate unimaginable power. He teased it, saying:

“I mean, he has made nearly all the rings now, but there’s one more that he [needs] to finish the collection, which he’s determined and has had in his mind for centuries. So, I’m super excited to see him go on the journey and hopefully take over Middle-earth…I’m sure everything will be great for everyone else.”

The show was renewed for an almost guaranteed third season, which is set to be bigger than the first two as the payoff from all the development is explored. Season 3 takes viewers in the middle of the action with a time-jump, and Sauron’s quest to acquire the One Ring heats up. Production is set to begin sometime this spring. Everyone who survived the battles in Season 2 will return for Season 3. “I am definitely excited to return to Middle-earth,” series star Cynthia Addai-Robinson told Collider.
