‘Leave It to Beaver’ Actress, 77, Says She Isn’t Close to the Show’s Star Jerry Mathers

Leave It to Beaver actress Jeri Weil, 77, is opening up about her dynamic with her former castmates.
Weil, who appeared as Beaver Cleaver’s (Jerry Mathers) classmate Judy Hensler on the show’s first three seasons, said she didn’t have a friendship with Mathers, 77, during an August 2025 interview on That’s Classic. According to Weil, she and Mathers “were fine together” while filming Leave It to Beaver, which ran from 1957 to 1963. In addition, she said her mother became close to Mathers’ mother while they were on the show’s set.
“They’d sit together on the set. You always had to have an adult with you,” explained Weil.
She then suggested that Mathers isn’t interested in maintaining a relationship with her.
“Since he’s an adult, I feel like he’s standoffish with me. I don’t know why,” said Weil.
Weil also shared that she maintained her friendship with her former castmate, Tony Dow, who played Beaver’s older brother, Wally, until his 2022 death.
“He was a love. Just the nicest man. And creative. And just a wonderful human being,” said Weil during the interview.
Mathers spoke about his Leave It to Beaver castmates in an April 2023 interview with HometownTV. According to Mathers, “everybody got along really well” while filming Leave It to Beaver.
“There was a lot of nice people on the set and we had a really good time. I had a wonderful time doing it,” said Mathers in the 2023 interview.
He also said he occasionally keeps in touch with his former co-stars.
“It’s like someone you go to high school with. You don’t go to high school anymore. We don’t really see each other because we live in different parts of California, we’re in the same state. We’re all good friends. And if something happens, if someone has a birthday or something like that we send each other cards,” said the former child actor.
