The Rings Of Power

Why the Wait for ‘The Rings of Power’ Season 3 Is About to Get Longer

The latest update about “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Season 3 could spell bad news for fans.

On December 10th, 2025, Prime Video confirmed filming had wrapped for the third season of its massively popular fantasy series. The update came through a short video released on its official Instagram account.

While one battle is over, however, another awaits: the long and costly post-production. This includes extensive VFX work, potential reshoots, editing, sound, and other technical wizardry.

With the series relying heavily on visual effects, this is expected to take, in “The Lord of the Rings” parlance, an age. But that’s not the only detail delaying the show’s return.

Anyone who does the math will notice something alarming about the production schedule of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.” Season 3. That is, it’s unlikely to arrive any time before 2027.

That’s because, based on past seasons, post-production is expected to take 14 months at the earliest. Season 1 was released in September 2022, roughly 14 months after filming ended.

The same went for Season 2, which released in August 2024, again, around 14 months after filming ended. This timeline puts the third season’s release in February 2027. Production for “The Rings of Power” Season 3 reportedly began in April 2025, with filming taking ten months.

That’s if nothing goes wrong from now to then. If it does, there will be reshoots. This could add months onto the wait.
