We’re all patiently waiting for The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6. That wait is going to be a long one as it’s caught up in the strike delays.
Eyes are on The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6. We had hoped to see filming start already, but that’s not the case. It’s got nothing to do with the show, but with the strike action currently taking place in Hollywood.
Is there a chance that we’ll see the sixth season canceled? Probably not. It’s time to look at everything that we do know about the season, including when we could expect it.
When will The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6 premiere on Hulu?
There isn’t a premiere date just yet. The season was set to start filming in 2023, but the writers strike immediately caused some delays. Then the actors strike happened in mid-July, putting the project on hold even more.
While the series films in Canada, it’s an American production. More specifically, it is a SAG production, so it is caught up in the SAG-AFTRA strike.
We weren’t expecting the season until 2024 at the earliest in the first place. Now all eyes are on when the show can even start filming.
Will The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6 be the last?
This is going to be the final season of the series. At the end of Season 5, we saw the Gilead refugees forced out of Canada. The Canadians were done looking after the refugees, so the Americans got them onto trains to areas that are still owned by the States and not by Gilead. June and Nichole were on the train, but they were not alone. June came across Serena-Joy and her baby.
As for Luke, he was arrested at the train station. He’d been wanted for murder after killing the man who ran over June in the street.
Back in Gilead, Aunt Lydia finally realized all the damage that Gilead was doing to women. It looks like she is facing a change in belief about the regime. Nick also stepped up to work with the Americans but he has been caught, and it doesn’t look like Joseph Lawrence will help him. After all, with the death of Commander Putnam, Lawrence now has the New Bethlehem that he wanted.
June and Luke’s daughter, Hannah, is still in Gilead. We got to see the MacKenzies return, who are “Agnes’s” parents. Is there a chance that we’ll see Lydia and maybe others attempt to get Hannah back to her real parents?
Will The Testaments happen?
There is a sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. It is called The Testaments. There are plans to bring the novel, which is set 15 years after The Handmaid’s Tale, to life. It follows Hannah/Agnes, Nichole/Daisy, and Aunt Lydia. The three unknowingly work together to bring down Gilead, something we knew had happened by the end of The Handmaid’s Tale.
Bruce Miller has stepped down as showrunner of The Handmaid’s Tale to work on the adaptation. However, the series is another one that has been caught up in the strike action. It’s also not that clear when the series will happen on Hulu.
Who will star in The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6?
We’re expecting the majority of the cast to return for the sixth and final season. That includes Elisabeth Moss, Yvonne Strahovski, Madeline Brewer, Ann Dowd, Max Minghella, O-T Fagbenle, and Bradley Whitford.
What we’re not sure about is whether Samira Wiley will return as Moira. We would love to see more of her, but the show couldn’t include Moira as much as she deserved to be included. There just wasn’t the time with so much going on. Is it possible that with the move out of Canada that Moira will be one of those characters only mentioned now and then?
I think all that depends on Luke’s storyline. We could see Moira, Rita (Amanda Brugel), and Mark Tuello (Sam Jaeger) join together to get Luke out of trouble and reunite with June and Nichole in America.
We are expecting to see Jordana Blake return as Hannah/Agnes. Hannah was a huge driving point for June not to leave Gilead at first, and she didn’t give up on her daughter from the outside. With Aunt Lydia now seeing the damage, could she end up working with someone on the outside to get Hannah out? What about the other girls?
