The first Karate Kid movie introduced Freddy as one of the residents at the South Seas apartment building, where Daniel LaRusso moves in with his mother. Although he initially befriends Danny, he later fails to stand up for him when Johnny bullies him at the beach with his friends. Freddy also appears towards the movie’s ending moments, where he cheers for Daniel when he wins the Karate Kid franchise’s central All-Valley tournament. Since Freddy’s initial betrayal plays a crucial role in Daniel’s opening arc in the Karate Kid franchise, it is hard not to wonder what happened to him after the first movie. Fortunately, Cobra Kai season 2 offers some answers.
During a hot summer day in Cobra Kai season 2, Daniel tweaks his students’ training environment by taking them to a freezing meat locker inside a store, Fernandez Meat Co. As the Miyagi Do students train in the freezer, several boxes labeled “Fernandez Meat Company” can also be spotted in the background. This seems to be a direct reference to Freddy Fernandez’s characterization, hinting that he is still friends with Daniel and allows him to use his freezer to train his students. Since Cobra Kai season 2 has already set the stage for Freddy’s arrival, Freddy should appear in Cobra Kai season 6.
How Freddy Fernandez Could Appear In Cobra Kai Season 6
Since Freddy was one of the first few people Daniel befriended after moving to the Valley in Karate Kid, his inability to take a stand for Danny played a crucial role in highlighting how Danny was being ostracized in his new school. Freddy’s support for Daniel towards the end of the movie showed that despite facing some issues in the beginning, the two had the potential to be friends. Cobra Kai season 6 could show Daniel and Freddy learned to bury their childhood misunderstandings and regrets over the years instead of holding on to them like many other primary characters in the franchise.
Cobra Kai season 6 could also show Daniel, Freddy, and Johnny hanging out as friends, which would contrast the franchise’s opening arc, where Freddy felt divided between Danny and Johnny’s rivalry. By doing so, Cobra Kai season 6 would portray how Johnny and Daniel have finally matured and realized how trivial their conflict used to be.
