Coronation Street star ‘forced’ to audition for ITV soap as return ‘confirmed’

Coronation Street star Lucy Fallon is best known for playing Bethany Platt in the ITV soap from 2015 to 2020.

Coronation Street star Lucy Fallon recently opened up about how she got the role in the ITV soap as rumours of her return are “confirmed”.

Over the five years that she was on the show, she was part of some of the most gripping storylines, especially being related to the Platt family.

However, Lucy recently admitted that she was pushed to audition for the part by her former headteacher.

Speaking on the Soap From The Box podcast with Lee Salisbury, she said: “It was really weird. I was only 18 at the time I was auditioning.

“I was kind of forced to do the first audition. I kept saying I didn’t want to do it and at the dance school I went to, the principal said: ‘You have to go’ so I have everything to thank her for.”

Luckily for Lucy, she landed the role and became the daughter of Sarah Platt (played by Tina O’Brien), and returned to Weathefield in 2015 after starting a new life in Milan.

Across her five years, Lucy won numerous amount of awards but admitted that she was nervous when first joining the cast.

She explained: “When I first started my first scenes were with Samia [Longchambon], who plays Maria [Connor], and Sue [Nicholls], who plays Audrey [Roberts] and it was in the salon.

“Two loveliest people you could be put with but it was so scary. I remember for the first six months I basically didn’t come out of my dressing room.

“I was only 19 and so nervous and I didn’t want to go in the green room and sit and talk to anyone. Tisha, who was there at the time, would say, ‘Come on, come and sit in the green room’.

“So I’d only ever go if Tisha was in and she would take me into the green room and then eventually it was absolutely fine.”

Lucy left the soap in 2020 after her character decided to leave the cobbles to pursue a career in journalism, working for a magazine in London.

Recently there have been reports that Lucy will be returning to the soap as Bethany after three years away.

A source told The Sun on Sunday: “Lucy is one of soap’s most talented actresses who won lots of awards for her powerful portrayal of Bethany’s grooming storyline.

“Bosses reached out to her a few weeks ago about the possibility of coming back and told her everything they’d planned for Bethany if she agreed.

“She discussed it with her boyfriend, and family because she’s a mum now with a baby. Once they’d talked about childcare, and how best to juggle it all, she was able to say she’d love to return.”

Bethany would be returning at a tough time for the Platts, as her mum Sarah is currently going through her break up with Adam Barlow (Sam Roberston).

Her uncle Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) is trying to keep his murders under wraps whilst the cobbles get used to Max Turner (Paddy Beaver) being back at home.

Will she bring more drama with her or will she be the one to uncover her uncle’s crimes and save her mother’s marriage?
