Both shows have a lot of bad characters, but the main battle for the criminal throne was between these two.
Fans were captivated by the chemistry teacher’s transformation into the ruthless Heisenberg. But the prequel managed to surprise the audience just as much.
In fact, some viewers found Jimmy’s journey even more shocking than Walter’s, as he begins as a sympathetic and well-meaning character and then plunges into a world of deception and manipulation.
Better Call Saul follows the life of Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer who struggles to make a living and indulges in all sorts of affairs to make at least a little money. Despite his bad reputation, Jimmy always tries to help others, especially his older brother Chuck, who doesn’t like him at all.
As the series progresses, however, viewers see Jimmy’s character gradually erode. His desperate desire for success and recognition leads him to make questionable decisions that put his soul at risk.
The final transformation into Saul occurs when Chuck commits suicide, but at this point McGill feels nothing and does not remember his brother until the end of Breaking Bad. The last living relative disappears from his life, and Jimmy changes his name to Mr. Goodman and becomes a completely different person.
Saul not only screws up his life, but also manipulates his wife, Kim Wexler, to achieve his goals. Their combined actions lead to the death of an innocent man, Howard Hamlin, who tried to do something to help Jimmy but was shot in the back of the head instead.
Many Redditors agree that McGill’s behavior is questionable, but he engaged in shady activities that had serious consequences at worst, and Walt turned himself into a murderer. Heisenberg committed more than one crime, blowing up a nursing home, letting his partner’s girlfriend die, and doing business with the Nazis.
Jimmy used crime to advance his career, while Mr. White tried to gain respect in the world of drug lords and cartels. From the time he learned of his cancer diagnosis until his death, Walt’s entire life was ruined, even though he had been a model family man and a great father for 50 years.
But some fans disagree. They believe it was Jimmy who got the cartels out of trouble and covered for Walt in all his misdeeds, dragging his family down with him. There would be no Heisenberg without Saul Goodman.
