Better Call Saul’s Dark Final Season Confirmed At Least One Breaking Bad Character Had A Happy Ending
The final season of Better Call Saul brought some really dark endings for most of the main characters, but it did confirm a happy ending for one Breaking Bad mainstay. The ending of Better Call Saul followed up on the ending of Breaking Bad in some interesting ways. It showed that Jimmy McGill’s new life in Nebraska wasn’t a clean break from Saul Goodman after all. It brought back Marie Schrader to show her as a grieving widow intent on getting justice for her husband’s death.
Most of Better Call Saul’s own characters met a grim fate in the final season. Nacho Varga and Howard Hamlin both got brutally murdered, and Kim Wexler ended up living a miserable suburban existence in an unhappy relationship in the middle of nowhere. Jimmy himself got caught by the feds and had to face the consequences of his crimes. But the final season of Better Call Saul did confirm that one of the Breaking Bad universe’s most lovable characters got the happy ending he deserved.
Better Call Saul’s Gene Scenes Confirmed That Jesse Pinkman Was Never Found
Since the Breaking Bad finale left Jesse Pinkman’s fate uncertain — he escaped the compound, but he could’ve been intercepted by police on the perimeter — Vince Gilligan wrote and directed El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie to give him a more solid ending. The movie revealed that Jesse managed to evade the cops and scraped together enough money to recruit the services of disappearer Ed Galbraith, much like Saul and Walter White did. Jesse made it to his dream destination of Alaska to start a new life off the grid.
But Galbraith’s relocations aren’t always permanent. Saul ended up getting caught and Walt ended up returning to Albuquerque to settle his old scores. Jesse could’ve still been found. Fortunately, Better Call Saul confirmed that Jesse’s happy ending stuck. Better Call Saul’s black-and-white scenes are set after El Camino, so it’s confirmed that Jesse made it to Alaska and was never found after all. If anyone in this franchise deserved a happy ending, it was Jesse.
Jesse Is The Only One Out Of The Main Breaking Bad Characters To Get A “Happy Ending”
Out of the main trio, Jesse was the only central Breaking Bad character who got a happy ending. Walt and Jimmy’s endings weren’t 100% tragic, but they were definitely bittersweet. Walt wound up dead, but he got to settle his old scores and reminisce about his meth-cooking career first. Jimmy wound up spending his life in prison in Better Call Saul, but he’s surrounded by fans who worship him. Jesse is the only one who got a second chance, and he’s arguably the only one who deserved it.
