The recently confirmed Blue Bloods sequel seems poised to undo a perfect wrap-up for one of its most popular characters. The Tom Selleck-led police and family drama was canceled after season 14 despite a massive fan-led protest to save it. Many of the stars were also vocal about wanting the series to continue. However, CBS held firm to its decision, though the network did hint at the possibility of a Blue Bloods spinoff series.

Thus, it is likely that Boston Blue will try to recreate the excitement and interest in Blue Bloods’ Reagan family by introducing this new tight-knit clan of law enforcement officers. It’s unclear yet how closely Danny will interact with this family or what interactions he will have with his own.

This off-screen breakup is disappointing, considering that Danny and Baez’s attempt at romance in Blue Bloods’ finale was supposed to be a happy ending for the two characters.

Boston Blue won’t premiere until the 2025-2026 TV season, so there is plenty of time for more casting news. Unless the new series announces definitively that Ramirez is not signing onto it as Baez, there is a possibility that she will be a series regular. Additionally, the showrunners might make changes to the series after the pilot episode. Something similar happened with Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, which added Missy as a recurring character despite initial news stating she would not be part of the sequel series to Young Sheldon.
