BMF Season 3: Cast, Plot Twists & Everything We Know
The 50 Cent-produced series has a lot of future potential to explore as the thrilling real-life story of the Flenory brothers continues.
BMF season 3 is very much in the works, continuing Meech and Terry’s crime saga, and there’s tons of Black Mafia Family season 3 news. Inspired by the origins and career of the titular drug trafficking and money laundering organization, BMF revolves around two brothers, Demetrius “Meech” Flenory and Terry “Southwest T” Flenory, as they rise from the streets of Detroit to form one of America’s most influential crime syndicates. The first two seasons have been praised for their introspective take on crime and thug capitalism and the constant plot twists, and the attention to detail while depicting real-life personalities.
Despite the BMF cast boasting many newcomers, the Starz original instantly served as an interesting segue from the usually formulaic crime dramas on modern television. With rapper and actor 50 Cent’s company, G-Unit Films and Television, producing it, BMF is another lauded addition to the star’s filmography as he also produced and played a major character in Power (another popular crime drama on Starz network). With BMF’s latest season ending on a cliffhanger, Meech and Terry’s thrilling, yet alarming, rise to power has a lot more potential, which can be explored season 3, and BMF season 3 news promises exactly that.
BMF Season 3 Latest News
The most recent BMF season 3 news is that filming for the season has officially wrapped (via Hot New Hip Hop) on June 30, 2023. The news comes from Flenory Jr. himself, who confirmed he had finished filming season 3 on social media. Flenory Jr. didn’t give anything away about the season and he remained tight-lipped about the BMF season 3 story and what to expect, but it at least gives an idea of the Black Mafia Family season 3 release window, which will likely be sometime around early 2024.
BMF Season 3 Is Confirmed
Starz confirmed BMF season 3 on January 18, 2023. BMF’s season 2 concluded on March 17, 2023 with a finale episode aptly titled “New Beginnings”. While the season 2 ending paved the way for more legal and crime-related troubles for its young protagonists, season 3 was already announced before the finale. Right when season 2 began airing in January 2023, Starz had already ordered a third installment for production (via Pop Sugar). With 50 Cent cast in The Expendables 4 and developing several other projects, he still returned as an executive producer despite his busy schedule.
BMF Season 3 Release Date
BMF debuted on Starz in September 2021 with season 2 premiering in January 2023 (leaving a 16-month gap between them). If Starz goes ahead with a similar production schedule, viewers can expect Black Mafia Family season 3 to drop anytime by early 2024. However, neither Starz executives nor the show creator Randy Huggins has offered any official statements regarding a potential release date for BMF season 3. Similarly, 50 Cent has also been quiet about the new season’s release. Given that filming on BMF season 3 has wrapped, the series could air in late 2023 or early 2024.
BMF Season 3 Cast
With the Flenory brothers at the core of BMF’s narrative, leading stars Flenory Jr and Terry actor Da’Vinchi will obviously return. With Monique tragically dying in BMF season 2, Kash Doll won’t be in BMF season 3. As for the rest of the ensemble. Eric Kofi-Abrefa may or may not return given that his character, Lamar, seemed to pass out after misusing crack cocaine, leaving his fate unknown.
A similar fate awaits BMF regulars Steve Harris (Diary of a Mad Black Woman, The Practice) and Kelly Hu (The Scorpion King, Arrow), both of whom play the police detectives Bryant and Jin respectively. With Bryant taking the fall for his son’s violent acts and stripped of his badge, Harris might return albeit with his character having different motivations. The same can be said for Hu as Jin’s relationship with Bryant needs a lot of mending. The returning cast will also include the brothers’ adulterous father, Charles, who is played by Russell Hornsby (In Treatment, Fences), and their strong-willed mother Lucille, who is played by Michole Briana White (Atlanta, Malignant).
BMF season 3 cast also updates regarding celebrity cameos too. As reported by Variety’s BreAnna Bell, rapper 2 Chainz and R&B singer Ne-Yo signed on as guest stars for BMF season 3. The two musicians will be joining the likes of many other artists who have had cameos in BMF, like rapper Snoop Dogg who played Pastor Swift. Even Eminem, who has had a low acting profile since delivering iconic freestyle raps in 8 Mile, appeared in season 1 drug trafficker and FBI informant White Boy Rick. With the previous Black Mafia Family seasons also featuring actor/comedian Mo’Nique and sports analyst Jalen Rose, the new season can also include non-musical personalities.
BMF Season 3 Story Details
50 Cent’s previous Starz series, Power, found him playing the ruthless gangster Kanan. However, it was the prequel, Power Book III: Kanan, that told the story of how Kanan started a life of crime in the first place. Unlike the Power franchise, Cent now has a real-life story to present with BMF. With season 2 only scratching the surface of the gang member’s adult exploits, there are many more angles to explore before the series probably ends with Meech and Terry pleading guilty in 2007. With BMF having covered the 1980s so far, a larger time period is left to cover.
The BMF season 3 plot can directly pick up from Meech and Terry’s victorious exploits in the previous season’s finale. With Detective Bryant removed from the force, the brothers would also hopefully enjoy some time away from law enforcement. All through Black Mafia Family season 2, the duo tried to establish BMF as a reputed crime enterprise, and it seems like they are succeeding for now. With B-Mickie kicked out of the organization, it is also likely for the Black Mafia Family to grow with new members in the BMF season 3 story.
Starz’ original programming president Kathryn Busby has hinted at some major twists for BMF season 3 too (via Deadline). The president explained, “Following such a strong debut with season two, we’re thrilled to continue to expand on the incredible story of the Flenory brothers as they change the game by writing their own rules.” Though her comments don’t give any specific BMF season 3 story details away, Busby teases some major changes to the dynamic in the Black Mafia Family, and it all but confirms the much higher stakes.
