Bridgerton may be gearing up for the love story of Benedict (Luke Thompson) and Sophie (Yerin Ha), but that doesn’t mean fans will bid Season 3’s main duo, Colin (Luke Newton) and Penelope (Nicola Coughlan), adieu.
In fact, fans should gear up for Polin as parents, according to Coughlan’s recent comments to Gold Derby. The star spoke to the outlet surrounding her recent SAG nomination and got candid about her onscreen character’s latest chapter as a mom.
As fans will recall, Season 3 concluded with Penelope’s secret identity as Lady Whistledown being revealed to the Ton and seeing her and Colin become parents to the new Lord Featherington. According to Coughlan, “I’ve got a super cute baby that is my doppelganger. When I saw the baby, I was like, ‘That looks so like me,’” she recalled.
“It’s crazy. I was showing my baby pictures to his parents, and we get on well.”
Meanwhile, Coughlan has been adjusting to Penelope’s new name, as she revealed “She’s now Penelope Bridgerton, and that’s the name on the trailer when I go in — it’s quite cute… She’s very much in the family now. It’s very, very sweet. She’s graduated to Bridgerton status.”
Fans got a small peek at Coughlan behind the scenes of Season 4 when Netflix announced its Season of Love virtual fan event which is set to be held on Valentine’s Day 2025. Regarding the upcoming chapter of the Shondaland hit, Coughlan added, “It feels like a totally different energy this year, which is the fun thing about the show, because it changes so much depending on each couple. So there’s a lot of new people in, and they’re really fantastic.”
